    "Mark Boyett is awesome!"

The final story in this series is great. But Boyett makes it truly exceptional. He definitely brings the characters to life.

    "This series keeps getting better"
If you could sum up The Lost Destroyer in three words, what would they be?

    bold, evocative, fun

What did you like best about this story?

The aliens and the AI are my favorite aspects of these stories

What does Mark Boyett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Being able to listen on the way to work is a big deal, I appreciate that he doesn't overdo the female voices.

    "The Narrator makes the story"
Would you listen to The Lost Destroyer again? Why?

Good premise and if you can get through the terrible narration in Book 1, Mark Boyett totally transforms the book in #2 and #3.

What about Mark Boyett’s performance did you like?

Mark Boyett is absolutely the best narrator you have. I now do a search for his narrations first and then go through them looking for a book I may like.

    Story
"I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you"

I haven't reviewed a book in a while but this one got to be irritating enough that I had to vent.

To me it seemed like this book had too many characters like Vizzini from "The Princess Bride". No, it wasn't bad that they used deductive reasoning like this memorable Sicilian, nor was it bad that they had to paint it out for the rest of us "morons". The bad part was there were about 7 or 8 of them that each KEPT doing it. Of course each time when they would gloat about their wonderful deductive skills it was never a short, "It just didn't make sense he was a miner". Instead it was a long drawn out, "Clearly you come from a planet that excelled at .. blah blah blah.. and the majority of people there use their left hand... blah blah.. and they never use a gun on Thursday..blah blah..so obviously I knew you were a secret agent for everyone".

Of course after they each took a turn telling all about their great reasoning skills they would unwaveringly have to spend a while patting themselves on the back. "I am the greatest starship in the universe" or "I'm the smartest man alive".

The story itself was ....... well I'm not really sure. I couldn't binge listen to it since it got to be so irritating. I guess if I lump it as part of the whole series it would be alright, but as a standalone book it was a little weak. Instead of adding new characters it seemed that the author just decided to rewrite existing characters to fit his needs. Good guys are now bad guys, the ship has multiple personality disorder (still the greatest starship in the universe though), and all these geniuses have no problem making the same mistakes like getting taken hostage or being kidnapped over and over and over and over........

If you absolutely loved this book I apologize for offending you. Please let me know how this series ends because I believe this is my stop.

    "A disappointing experience."
What did you like best about The Lost Destroyer? What did you like least?

I really didn't care for the pivot the author took on the story line for this book and overall found this book borderline boring compared to the previous books in the series. At about the halfway mark I adjusted the audio book player speed to a faster setting to get through the story faster. This story had no "balance" as there is very little action and (in my opinion) way too much pointless dialog. On the other hand Mark Boyett is stellar as a narrator and likely the reason I didn't bail out before the end.

Has The Lost Destroyer turned you off from other books in this genre?

I'm fine with books in this genre but will likely give up on this series.

What does Mark Boyett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As I said previously Mark Boyett is a stellar narrator.

Was The Lost Destroyer worth the listening time?

    Not in my opinion.

    Any additional comments?

    Just disappointed.

"Excellent story telling. Even better narration."

This is my favorite narrator, and my favorite story line. What a great read! This is a great new take on aliens, and isn't played out at all.

this is the third book in the series. i've listened to them all. they aren't brilliant; they might be considered really bad. but... it's like being caught in the headlights of a car. you know what's going to happen and you still have to look.
