We fought the invading New Men to a standstill and defeated the alien destroyer sent to obliterate Earth.
The worst should be over, but it's not.
Perfect android replicas are impersonating high-level officials so trust is failing. Worse, the New Men have found allies with an impenetrable stealth technology.
This time, however, Earth is going on the offensive. Admiral Fletcher is headed to C Quadrant with a Grand Fleet. He's to liberate the captured planets and find the enemy homeworld. What he isn't supposed to do is die.
The only one who can save humanity has been grounded. Captain Maddox is under suspicion because he's half New Man. But he's not going to stop. He's found something unbelievable. Now, he needs Starship Victory-an ancient, alien spacecraft-the AI Galyan, Meta, Sergeant Riker and the others to help him tear the greatest secret of all from the enemy.
Maddox and his crew must succeed or humanity will drown in a sea of human extinction.

The Lost Colony have some exciting twists and turns that leaves the reader in excited emotional turmoil, provided one negates some points of reality!
For example, Parkar's capture and subsequent interrogation where the Newman is not under chains and not locked to the floor by said chains, and the table is not bolted to the floor, making possible for his subsequent escape and causing havoc! Why would there be armed guards in the interrogation room with him where he has access to weapons? After all, he is a Newman, with super human abilities!
After all these books are fantasies!
Still a good book and worth the purchase and read or listen!!
Great story line throughout the book series with progressive development of stories and characters. Lots of strategies that work well and lend believability. A fun, can't stop now read.
Mark Boyett is a great narrator with different voices for each character.
Excellent story and outstanding performance. I really enjoyed this book! The series continues to be entertaining and character development continues to be interesting.
I read the first two books about a year. they were okay but I wasn't very enthused to move on to the next one. I finally picked up the third book recently and really liked it. This fourth book was even better and I am so glad that I got caught up on the series.
the storyline kind of takes a new twist in the last two books but it's a good one, I think. Also I've gotten to know the characters better so I can relate to them muchbetter as the series progresses.
I really like the fact that Driving Force Galleon and Captain Maddox have become friends. at first I thought that Maddox was such a stiff and so arrogant but that was part of the character-building. as the story moves along, his character becomes more flexible and is easier to relate to.
This installment seemed to lack the depth of the earlier installments. The story is so well crafted that you are still invested in the main characters. Already looking forward to the next book in the series.
and so it goes over the hills and far away blows the winds of winter and Springs just a dream over the hills and far away
High space adventure in the universe that remains me of the Roddenberry Star Trek crossed with the Whedon firefly the result an unique one of a kind story told on space. Flash Gordon meets idealized version of romance and war on a positive humanity's future . Cheers Vaughn and thanks for the story and the memories heck of a wonderful w story
I really like this series, I like the hopelessness of the situations the hero finds himself in as well as the solutions . I was hoping to see victory gain a more powerful weapon against and for some more on the new smaller humans bringing new tech to earth. I suspect this is a setup book for the next adventure, so it is a must read.
What can I say...awaiting the next listen...get busy folks... Outstanding listen, need more I'm running out of new listens ....
liked it a lot, has a classic style of sci-fi telling to it with a few good twists.
"Great audio book"
When you miss a book and hope it won't end you know it's been good. Enjoyed all 4 books, this the last one was as good as the others and equally enjoyable. Even the small touches of humour worked well, Galleons surprise party revelation to Valerie was excellent. Well thought out well narrated and plenty of Si Fi
"Another great listen"
I bought this with a little trepidation after reading a review saying it wasn't as good as previous books in the series.
I totally disagree. As usual the book has a good pace, with the usual mix of suspense, action and humour.
Can't wait for the next in the series - I am assuming there will be one.
"Great book . keep them coming"
love it. i need more the story is just getting started please carry on
"Not the best of the series"
This instalment of the series certainly isn't the best one. It felt more like a transition in the story from one major plot line to something larger come. On the whole it pretty slow and ponderous; with a lot of earth based back story and not enough space action. The big events around the last builder are certainly a highlight as was the full arrival of a new foe for humanity.
"CAN I HAVE MY MONEY BACK PLEASE"
Seriously lacking in depth in terms of story and characters. difficult to keep interested in story
