Publisher's summary

They say that the Thorn of Camorr can beat anyone in a fight. They say he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. They say he's part man, part myth, and mostly street-corner rumor. And they are wrong on every count. Only averagely tall, slender, and god-awful with a sword, Locke Lamora is the fabled Thorn, and the greatest weapons at his disposal are his wit and cunning.

He steals from the rich - they're the only ones worth stealing from - but the poor can go steal for themselves. What Locke cons, wheedles and tricks into his possession is strictly for him and his band of fellow con-artists and thieves: the Gentleman Bastards. Together their domain is the city of Camorr. Built of Elderglass by a race no-one remembers, it's a city of shifting revels, filthy canals, baroque palaces, and crowded cemeteries. Home to Dons, merchants, soldiers, beggars, cripples, and feral children. And to Capa Barsavi, the criminal mastermind who runs the city.

The Thorn of Camor

Great story - wish I had just read it myself and saved 16 hours. I was driving though.

Pure joy!

I stumbled across this book because I was looking for books read by Michael Page. And Wow! What a joy.

If you can enjoy an amazing romp with the possibility of death by blade or rope waiting at every wrong turn... not to mention poisonings or magic well this book is for you,
you at heart may be a Gentleman Bastard.

Michael Page (always masterfully delicious) delivers this tale of a brotherhood of thieves with an adroit hand.

I can’t wait to delve into this series

Masterful.

If you have a problem with strong language or want to experience the setup for a heroic journey, this might not be the book for you... BUT the author has mastered the craft of what he is trying to achieve with both the characters and story. After you grasp the flow of everything, I promise you will fly through it.

I never really laugh out loud while reading or listening to a book but this one had me bursting out in laughter so many times that I lost count even though the book has a darker theme throughout. This might have been due to the magical combination of the writing and the narrator working together so effortlessly to bring both the city of Camorr and the characters to life. You will fall in love with the entire cast of characters even though they're nothing more than con-artists and criminals and that is the beauty of Scott Lynch's writing.

If you want to have a good time while also having your heart broken, then you need to read this book.

A must read

Simply put, this book is magnificent. The only reason I'm giving it 5 stars is because Audible doesn't allow a sixth. I loved every single second of it. Beautifully realised characters, fantastic world building with clearly defined rules, some of the best dialogue I've read in years and truly compelling plot. Brilliant.

The performance is amazing but too loud….

The story is amazing. It is a D&D fantasy and the hero is a con man. The performance is amazing as well — all the character voices are different and consistent. The only issue is that the volume of the voices increase drastically where it would hurt my ear drums especially when the character is yelling. I needed to play with the volume constantly and could not just relax and listen.

Great tale from start to finish

Fun adventure with present and past time periods done right. Worth the listen if you enjoy Robin Hood type protagonists with mix of Oceans 11.

Great characters

This was like a detective story where the hero was a shady character. I liked the mystery and foreshadowing was very subtle.
