Publisher's summary

They say that the Thorn of Camorr can beat anyone in a fight. They say he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. They say he's part man, part myth, and mostly street-corner rumor. And they are wrong on every count. Only averagely tall, slender, and god-awful with a sword, Locke Lamora is the fabled Thorn, and the greatest weapons at his disposal are his wit and cunning.

He steals from the rich - they're the only ones worth stealing from - but the poor can go steal for themselves. What Locke cons, wheedles and tricks into his possession is strictly for him and his band of fellow con-artists and thieves: the Gentleman Bastards. Together their domain is the city of Camorr. Built of Elderglass by a race no-one remembers, it's a city of shifting revels, filthy canals, baroque palaces, and crowded cemeteries. Home to Dons, merchants, soldiers, beggars, cripples, and feral children. And to Capa Barsavi, the criminal mastermind who runs the city.

Great listen, fantastic story!

If you could sum up The Lies of Locke Lamora in three words, what would they be?

This was a great fantasy novel. I was recommended this book, and didn't really know what to expect, but the author describes the universe in great detail, and I got completely carried away by the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lies of Locke Lamora?

The detailed plotting and turn of events around the activities of the gentlemen bastards at their "games". Also the suspense surrounding the main villains of the story.

Which character – as performed by Michael Page – was your favorite?

Both Father Chains and Locke was very interesting, But the reader gives life too all the main characters in a very good performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Probably not, considering its length. But it would probably help to listen in large chunks, because you can get lost in all the excitement :)

A very good but slightly difficult book to follow

The story and the twist & turns were good. The story was slightly difficult to keep up with in the beginning.

Great dialogue, good plot

Scott Lynch does a great job of writing dialogue. The overall story is good and well thought out, but what really sells this book is the excellent banter between the main cast.

witty, charismatic, brutal, and satisfying

Incredible performance from Michael Page! There are so many wonderful characters in the book and he made them all very distinct and a joy to listen to.

The story is very engaging and well paced. It always felt like something exciting was about to happen. Even with the book's title, I was still always surprised when Locke would fool everyone with a new lie. They are all written and delivered with earnest and always keep you guessing.

Can't wait to start book 2!

First time leaving 5-star review.

What more is there to say? Gripping, intricate story, charming and intelligent main character, and don't get me started on performace by Michael Page! He quickly became my favorite narrator. Definitely worth listening to.

Fun, character - driven story

The characters really sold the story, and made me continously eager to see what would happen to each and every one of them.
The violence could be a bit too graphic at times and I think the tone was not quite right at the end, but I had a very good time with it and look forward to reading more from the same author.
