Publisher's summary

They say that the Thorn of Camorr can beat anyone in a fight. They say he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. They say he's part man, part myth, and mostly street-corner rumor. And they are wrong on every count. Only averagely tall, slender, and god-awful with a sword, Locke Lamora is the fabled Thorn, and the greatest weapons at his disposal are his wit and cunning.

He steals from the rich - they're the only ones worth stealing from - but the poor can go steal for themselves. What Locke cons, wheedles and tricks into his possession is strictly for him and his band of fellow con-artists and thieves: the Gentleman Bastards. Together their domain is the city of Camorr. Built of Elderglass by a race no-one remembers, it's a city of shifting revels, filthy canals, baroque palaces, and crowded cemeteries. Home to Dons, merchants, soldiers, beggars, cripples, and feral children. And to Capa Barsavi, the criminal mastermind who runs the city.

Amazing

I found the narration initially off-putting and stopped listening for a while, but after giving it another chance I can say it’s well worth the price. Narrator has certainly grown on me and as for twists the story is loaded with them, and they’re not easily predictable.

Most entertaining listen!

I have listed to a large number of audiobooks over recent years, many of them of them excellent - however, this is the first time I have been sufficiently motivated to actually write a review. This was just a perfect combination of original story, entertaining witty characters and a wonderful narrator. Michael Page's range and consistency of voices brought the whole thing to life.

A slight warning is in order to those of a nervous disposition, however - the story contains occasional graphic descriptions of violence and frequent "colourful" language.

Narration best in class

Narration was the best I've ever heard. Great story, I couldn't get enough. Will definitely read more from this author and look for then narrator again.

Solid plot - brilliant characters

I really liked this book. Having heard many genre series and bestsellers this i one of my favourites. The whole universe might not be as elaborate but the characters are really good. There is magic but it is just there - there is feudalism but it is not overexploited.
The boundaries between good and not so good are blurry as in the real world. I recommend this to any "fantasy" afficionado.

a must read for fans of dark fantasy

great narration made this book capture me from page one! stands alone as a complete work even though it is part of a series. no loose ends.

Good overall

I really liked both the book and the narrator. it was both humourus and interesting to read. although I got tired of some of the descriptions, finding them a bit too much. And sometimes I found that I was given information about the world that I didn't need or really cared for. not necessarily a bad thing I just wished The author would have trimmed some of it away

I hung onto every word for 20+ hours.

This is a great intro to fantasy or for someone who likes realistic fantasy. It's so well written and engaging, every character is so well written and real that even when they do something stupid, it feels like that is really what they would do. Each scene is very detailed and paints pictures that stick, and the flashbacks always come back, no matter how out of context they seem, which I love. The friendships in this is so good and deep and I loved everything they did for each other! I have to say there were only a few women named, they didn't get many lines, but they were all very accomplished, flawed, powerful and not sexualised which was great, I hope there will be more cool women and great friendships like this in the next installments.
