He who seeks power, seeks destruction

Over 1,000 years ago, nearly all the ancient wizards were destroyed after the Wizard Wars. However, the one who started the war still remains, having worked his will in secret. If he can find the last Dragonwand, he will regain his powers as the dark dragon. Unaware of the Dragonwand or the betrayer, 16-year-old Markus is looking for a wizard who will give him a letter of recommendation for the College of Wizardry. During his journey, he stumbles upon Tolen the Wise, who sends Markus on a quest to end the darkness and find the Dragonwand before it gets into the wrong hands. As Markus discovers growing powers and makes allies, will he find what he needs to complete Tolen's task, or will the ancient, dark wizard uncover the Dragonwand and forever change the fate of the land of Gallenor?

Good fantasy book

Well written fantasy story. I just wish it was longer so it didn’t end so quickly.

A solid, if short, fantasy story

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, this was nothing new in the fantasy genre. The author stuck with the usual fantasy elements of sword and sorcery (and dragons). It was, however, very well executed. The narration was pretty good as well. For me, it was too short. I just didn't feel the author put enough into building the world as he did the characters. That being said, I liked it enough to move on to the second book.

This was an amazing story.

It has a couple of same word repeats toward the end. This story was amazing though. With out me realizing it the book had sucked me in and i was laughing along with the characters and crying along with the characters. It was written in a way where it just swept me off a took me for an adventure. I Love it.

The Legacy of Dragonwand

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This book was short, and felt short, but that didn't make it bad. It just didn't feel like a sweeping masterpiece. But I don't think that was what it was going for. It seems that the author was going for a well paced serial-type adventure and that's what we got. By not introducing anything mindbending, we didn't need to spend too much time really learning about the world. We already understood it mostly. That means we could just jump into the story. Good enough to recommend and continue with the series, for sure.

Kept me engaged and interested in what is next

I finished the book, this time, on 10/12/2020. This is not the first time I have read this book.

Overall, this book does a great job as a foundation for this trilogy. It kept me interested and engaged throughout the book. The ability of the author to wrap you up in the story's happenings is noteworthy and is full of imagination. The flow of the plot and character intros is smooth and adds to the overall story. However, be thankful you have Book 2 you can jump right into from this. :) The ending is a cliffhanger. You may be looking at this as a a spin off of HP or Eragon, but you would be mistaken. I recommend giving this series a chance, as a unique story.

I really enjoy the development of the story and how the author allows us to see Markus as a very "green" teenager that is even more of a novice when it comes to understanding his innate magical abilities from the very beginning of the story. I think ever reader can relate to this time in their life of being awkward, unsure of the world, but full of dreams of the future. Yet, as the story progresses, he learns, grows, and shows his true potential for being the one to finish the momentous task before him with the help of his friends.

I have been very intrigued with the ability of the ancient wizard, Tolen the Wise, was able to communicate to Markus through his dreams and place so much knowledge within him in this way. Tell me that doesn't spark imagination about your own dreams!

When it comes to the dog-kind, the Rakki, Markus encounters, I enjoyed how the author lays out the strong characteristics of this people as well as how they live and their values. I'm always enamored that much of their lives are in trees. It's easy for me to imagine and makes me wish I could visit a place like that.

Fantasy

There is nothing new in this book, however, it is a well written story. It is shorter then I expected but I was still recommend it.
