Geralt is a Witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless hunter. Yet he is no ordinary killer. His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world.

But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good . . . and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.

I read this in anticipation of the release of Witcher 3, and was not disappointed. Really enjoyed the way the tale was spun. I had trouble with the rapid phrasing of the narrator, but resolved this by slowing playback speed by half. Ymmv

Well told story

I listened to this in anticipation of the witcher netflix show and i have mixed feeling toward the book. On one hand i enjoyed the short story format because during one reading session for me, 1 main chapter, i get a pretty good story. However the problem with it being short stories is you dont get a strong connection to the characters (except Garalt, and Dandillion in the later chapters). Some of the chapters are confusing because of this-random characters thrown into the mix.

I also want to mention this was not a great performance narration wise. I do enjoy the narrators voice for Garalt and select others, but others were really hard to understand, and volume is all over the place about 2/3rds into the audio book. One moment he is whispering, the next - your speaker is blasting.

If i gave it a letter grade id give it a c+.

As a Brandon Sanderson fan i wanted to explore something different, i was just expecting a little more. I do think i have enough curiosity to eventually read the first actual ‘novel’.

I was expecting more

I've heard this book is the basis for a video game and an upcoming Netflix series. Since im not interested in either, I didn't know what to exoect, but I also heard this guy is "the next Tolkien" and I was like...okay bitch...way to throw a gauntlet.

Both the story and the narrator surpassed my expectations. It's not a jointed narrative, more like a collection of short stories, but while I normally don't go for that thing, this was incredible. Insightful, philosophical, sexy, heroic....I'm kind of left reeling. The narrator was superb. Accents (including a goat-demon) were A+

If you're even slightly interested in fantasy, don't hesitate. Just put it in your cart.

Wasn't expecting that

It was nice to listen to and the stories are okay but they are a little boring and uninspired

Fun but repeatative

Having wanted to listen to this for years, I, like so many, figured now would be the right time. Especially with the two for one sale. It was good. Of course they are short stories pieced together by a loose framing but still entertaining enough. Three of the short stories (at least) are featured in season one of the Netflix show. So that was a cool surprise for me.

Great performance
