"I've been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf a few miles off the coast. Again, some would have me believe the fracture took place as I entered the world. But all that really matters, according to my parents, is that I, Solomon Ull Vincent, the first child born on Antarctica - the first and only Antarctican - was born on September 2nd, 1974.
"If only someone could have warned me that, upon my return to the continent of my birth thirteen years later, I would be kidnapped, subjected to tortures beyond comprehension and forced to fight... and kill. If only someone had hinted that I'd wind up struggling to survive in a subterranean world full of ancient warriors, strange creatures and supernatural powers.
"Had I been warned I might have lived a normal life. The human race might have remained safe. And the fate of the world might not rest on my shoulders. Had I been warned....

Give me water to swim and surf in. That with a glass of white wine and the sun. That's heaven.
I got lucky when I decided to listen to the sample for "The Last Hunter Decent". Before this book I had never heard of Jeremy Robinson or R.C. Bray. Now, I am a 24 karat supporter of both. The story starts slowly, but like all great adventures, it continues to build in stature from innocence to full adventure mode. I loved everly minute of it and look forward to followup books.
That's a tough one. I can't honestly think of anything I didn't like. The characters were rich and textured. Even the villains were likable. Charismatic. Intriguing. The story had elements of the Noble Savage in reverse, as well as Peter Pan, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Survivor Man. It was light-hearted, yet there were elements that were disturbing in regards to Solomon's "descent" into savagery. I feared for the boy's soul...which says alot when considering how many physical dangers that threatened him. This shows expert craftsmanship on the part of the author.
But there was more to this audiobook than a great story. I have to say that R.C. Bray, the narrator, stole the show in this one. He was absolutely amazing. His voices captivated me. It sounds cliche', but it honestly seemed like a movie was playing in my head while he narrated and that different actors were playing individual parts. It was difficult to distinguish Bray's voice from that of the characters he portrayed, which, in my opinion, is the key to masterful narration.
Honestly, the most memorable for me was watching this sweet, innocent boy slowly, gradually be turned into a hardened, savage hunter. There were scenes in which Solomon, er, I mean Ull, scared me in regards for the boy's soul. No child should ever be so hardened as he. And this exploration of the savagery that a child can unleash fascinated me.
First time listening to Bray's narration, but definitely won't be the last. I think he's going to go places. A fantastic actor and storyteller.
From the first few minutes, I wished I had time enough to just sit and listen straight through.
Can't wait to listen to the next one. Already purchased and will be downloading as soon as I finish this.
Excellent writing, really captures the readers attention and imagination. Solomon is a strong character who you feel for and want him to succeed. I am looking forward to the next one. I think this series is probably one of the most character driven series Robinson has written. R.C.Bray did such an amazing job with the narration, if I hadn't known from the start that he was narrating I wouldn't have believed it, it is that good.
Character development was excellent
I was looking for a quick sci-fi book to listen to and stumbled across this book. After I finished this one I got the remainder of the books in the series and listened to them all the way through. I have it playing in the background while I am working and it makes the day go by much faster although I have to admit it may have reduced my productivity at times.
Maybe if I forgot what happened before the next book comes out - but thats not likely its pretty memorable
Good character development - Liked the 1st person POV
Cool effects on certain voices
It made me cheer at some point
The series is pretty amazing even if the 1st book is not the best one
I just achieved App Scholar!! 1000 hours in 1 yr 7 mo and 10 days!!! I never thought I would make it this far!! Thanks Audible
A good short book, only 6 hrs quick and two the point!!! If you know anything about the gods and super hero I think you will like this book,it all ties together!!! O will rule all!!!
As much as I like sagas, this story felt incomplete. Fun and creative yet lacking depth. It was hard for me to feel for the character. Still it's a nice way to spend an afternoon.
This book is probably great for a teen, unfortunately I came in expecting a novel on the level of Brent Weeks Night Angel Trilogy. The word I found for this novel was clumsy. The descriptions seemed off until I realized this book was meant of Teens. If you're a teen. Enjoy the book, creative story, If you're looking for an adult oriented science fiction/fantasy. This may not be for you.
The narration was good. Vocal variety and consistency with characters. Easy and fun to listen to.
I'm a horror nut! Zombies in particular! Epidemics, end of all things! Also enjoyed Game of thrones very much!
I look forward to starting next book. Under Antarctica lies a world of monsters and so called gods of Ole! Follow the lead as he finds his way then finds himself in this world under the ice!!
R.C. Bray's voices for particular characters are outstanding. It added a whole new level to the story and gave me goosebumps from the awesome
The Nephilim, and his variable vocal talents!
Anytime the Nephilim talked.
Bray is awesome!
