Publisher's summary

In the second decade of the 21st century, the world is struck by two catastrophes: a new mini-ice age and a plague to dwarf all previous experiences. Rising out of the disaster is the character known to history as "Bandit Six", an American Army officer caught up in the struggle to rebuild the world and prevent the fall of his homeland - despite the best efforts of politicians, both elected and military.

The Last Centurion is a memoir of one possible future, a world that is a darkling mirror of our own. Written "blog-style", it pulls no punches in its descriptions of junk science, bad strategy, and organic farming.

Critic reviews

"Dan John Miller’s delivery is perfect for this no-punches-pulled first-person narrative by Bandit Six, the Last Centurion. Laced with crude language and dark images of the future, Miller’s reading is straightforward and army tough." (AudioFile Magazine)

"Ringo excels in the depiction of combat, managing to capture the carnage and horror while maintaining a sense of the absurd....with the unexpected twists that Ringo has made his hallmark." (Publishers Weekly)

Is John Ringo a descendent of Nostradamus?

This book hits on so many themes that are affecting this country right now. That fact that we are suffering under COVID and the years that this story take place in are just uncanny.

Politically Incorrect -- I loved it

What did you love best about The Last Centurion?

The story line -- troops stranded in the Middle East when the ice age and 'flu' epidemic devastated all governments. And their fight to get back home, punctuated by observations about how the political powers that be (you know who you are) screwed up at every turn ... and made things much worse by blindly adhering to their agenda in the face of devastating reality. Like sticking to the global warming story line (and taking actions as if it were really true) when it was obvious that the planet was cooling due to changes in the sun. Scary parallels to today.

What did you like best about this story?

See above

What does Dan John Miller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good narrator. Pace and timing good. No complaints. I prefer to listen nowadays.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Political Correctness Meets Reality -- and Kills People.

Any additional comments?

This isn't for everyone. If you're a lefty, you'll find much to be offended about. As a Libertarian, I didn't agree with his comments about Ayn Rand --- well, most of them anyway. This story, for me, was an unexpected gem. Thanks, Instapundit.

Absolute PANDEMIC read!

I swear to god John Ringo is a time traveler, the man wrote a book in 2008 that is about a flu outbreak from China that starts in 2019 and is not taken seriously because, hey it's only the flu.

This book is so good.

Good for what it was

I listened to this at the recommendation of a friend; one who's into military fiction. Contemporary or historical military fiction and non-fiction isn't really of interest to me, so getting through this book was a bit more tedious than I prefer, but the book overall was enjoyable. I'm familiar with Ringo's sci-fi books, and the writing style is much the same.

Fantastically Produced Audiobook

Great Story but what sets this book apart from others in my library is the fantastic quality of the narrator and the production quality. It’s the best produced book in my library.

Excellent Science Fiction/Alternate Timeline

John Ringo did an excellent job of painting a picture of what could have happened. While some of the details were different, a lot of the story points are scary similar to actual history. He wrote a gripping tale. The delivery was quite well done. Worth every minute.

What a book! but, truth hurts, tofu eaters beware!

Super Libs will hate it, this is true, but for ALL the rest of us, this is an exciting, well written romp of an all to possible near future.
Give us more!!!
