Publisher's summary

In the second decade of the 21st century, the world is struck by two catastrophes: a new mini-ice age and a plague to dwarf all previous experiences. Rising out of the disaster is the character known to history as "Bandit Six", an American Army officer caught up in the struggle to rebuild the world and prevent the fall of his homeland - despite the best efforts of politicians, both elected and military.

The Last Centurion is a memoir of one possible future, a world that is a darkling mirror of our own. Written "blog-style", it pulls no punches in its descriptions of junk science, bad strategy, and organic farming.

Critic reviews

"Dan John Miller’s delivery is perfect for this no-punches-pulled first-person narrative by Bandit Six, the Last Centurion. Laced with crude language and dark images of the future, Miller’s reading is straightforward and army tough." (AudioFile Magazine)

"Ringo excels in the depiction of combat, managing to capture the carnage and horror while maintaining a sense of the absurd....with the unexpected twists that Ringo has made his hallmark." (Publishers Weekly)

great story

Right wing fantasy, great what if, with a compelling reasons for the actions of all the soldiers and participants.

Extra Salty

Any additional comments?

Would have been a lot more enjoyable if there hadn't been multiple F-bombs a sentence.

If I were King of the world.

The book is aimed at 16 to 26 year old males.
The story line is cross between Star Ship Troopers and a USA conservative Republican Radio show.
The first chapter is in Military jargon to bond with people either in or just leaving service. All
very clubby.

There is alternate science that has nothing to
with the real world. Such as a new ice age even
though the glaciers are melting. How does that
work?

The author assigns behavior to the opposition that is
truly dastardly. (Unbelievable)
The hero is flawless, smart, and a farmer.

If you enjoyed Star Ship Troopers, as I did.
I have the book and reread it once in while.
You'll like this book. In my opinion it's has about
as much relevance to what's going on today.

Star Ship Troopers is relevant in a quirky way,
but I would not quote it like Shakespeare,
except to a Conservative Republican Radio show
host. "Seven Habits of Successful People" it is
not.

I would consider the book only to be a work of fiction and an okay read. Light humor.
An accurate mirror of today and how you should live your life. No, unless your a conservative
Republican Radio show host. The world only needs
one or two of them.

Loved It!!

Yes, it definitely has a slant right wing stance. That is part of why I loved it! The book was extremely funny. I listened to this on my Mp3 player and kept getting strange looks as I laughed out loud. I can't wait to get my husband to listen to it as well. He will love it. The only downside was the language, but it fit the personality of Bandit 6.

Learned to love.

At first I though there was no way I was going to enjoy the style of this book. That quickly changed as I listened. Now I wish there was a sequal.

How did you know

As for the narrator I believe that he did an excellent job of the narration and making it easier to see in my mind. Kudos to you and keep it up.
Mr Ringo, I want to tell you that as a fellow veteran that your story hits very close to home. But my biggest question is, how were you able to write this story about a pandemic, albeit a different virus, that almost mirrors what is going on right now 12 years later? The book should be read by all the political leaders of the world. Your insight could provide a framework to avoid the pitfalls we all now face.
Bless you for your skill and thank you.

Why the weird rating?? Here’s why

So the book is incredibly interesting take them the end of the modern age or the possible end of US dominance or something like that. Or at least it could be when you look at it with the lens of 2008. Now sitting at 2020 it’s so a lot of propaganda for global warming deniers/right wing sentiments anti-Democrat verbal vomits. If you can read it read it for entertainment it is going to be interesting if you are right wing and also interesting if you are left-wing or even if you live in one of the two directions don’t make it about politics have fun with it it’s a disaster flick. And that Mr. Ringo is probably mentally walking himself back from all the stuff that was written in this book about what would happen if there was a pandemic in 2019. Now with our ability to see what happened this last month of 2020 holy crap was it wrong. But hey if you like guns and people planning how to get out of a really crappy situation listen to it know that most of the propaganda is propaganda and it is bullshit. And enjoy it if you can if you can look at it as fantasy
