Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Original Work, 2013

Six months ago, the world ended. The Baugh Contagion swept across the planet. Its victims were left twitching, adrenalized cannibals that quickly became know as Junkies. Civilization crumbled as people created isolated safe havens to hide from the infected... and the possibly infected. Now, as society nears a tipping point, lives will intersect and intertwine across two days in a desolate city.

The Junkie Quatrain is four tales of survival, and four types of post-apocalypse story, because the end of the world means different things for different people. Loss. Opportunity. Hope. Or maybe just another day on the job.

Post-Apocalyptic Fiction With Character

"The Junkie Quatrain" took me by surprise. The reveiws I read were rather lukewarm, and while I've enjoyed some of Clines' other stuff, he's never wowed me, so I was essentially looking for something which wasn't awful.

Not only is TJQ not awful, it's pretty damn good. It's composed of four shortish stories, all of which function well enough on their own, but when taken as a whole provide a much richer experience.

This book features a diverse variety of characters, but they're believable and human, and are the real stars of the story. The infected are merely a facet of the environment and setting (although they're a big facet; never fear). The story remains rooted in people with whom we can, if only in some small way, identify.

Pleasantly Surprised

I bought this sort of spontaneously as a deal of the day or something like that. I assumed it would be sort of rubbish, but ultimately it was a pleasant enough way to spend a few hours. This isn't the type of book I typically read, but I have to say I wouldn't mind reading similar books more often...

Didn't want it to end

I love these kinds of stories and I love that it is set in Los Angeles (close to where I used to live even). Haven't started on any of the continuation books but this start was great.

ok for the price

Train of thought all over the place and leaves you with, so now what.

It seems like 1/3 of a book and not book 1, if that is what it is. Buy it cheap or don't buy it

A great book but....

Another great book from Peter Clines. My only complaint is that I want more of this storyline! I didn't want the book to end. I felt like it was far too short. I hope Peter writes more in this world.

Too short!!!

Picked this up because I’ve liked everything else Peter Clines has written. I’m torn about giving this one 5 stars, because it feels more like the first few chapters of something a lot bigger, but it’s a really really fun first few chapters, so since I can’t give it 4.5, I’m rounding up to 5.

Very good & thought provoking for the world today

I am listening to this more than 10 years after it was released. Clines' predictions about worldwide pandemics are very timely in 2022. When I purchased I was expecting the run-of-the-mill Zombie stuff, but this is much more related to potential real life.
I am a huge Peter Clines fan and had missed this one somewhere along the way. Excellent.

Interesting but needs more

I enjoyed this short listen. I loved the way the four characters lives inter twined. My only negative comment is; I wish it were a longer story as it was so interesting I didn't want it to end. I was rooting for the woman in the first story. This would be excellent to make a second, much longer book.
