Publisher's summary

Bishop is trapped deep inside Montana's Apex Valley along with his injured wife, a shotgun-wielding stranger named Colbrick, and a sneaking suspicion he's never making it back to Chicago. Things no man has seen before haunt the woods. Strange animal species creep behind pine trees, some of them with flashing red tags that blink faster and faster. Giant birds mimic the sound of humans and lord over the sky. Leaf-shaped creatures attack anything that moves and flash vivid colors across their glistening backs.

As Bishop and his companions scramble across the Montana wilderness, they find human remains and animal carcasses littering the woods. The small town of Elmore is empty, the windows broken and streaked with blood. Trout Bridge - their only way out - is blocked by abandoned cars, none that were inbound.

With the strange animal species closing in, Bishop realizes his group must take a stand. He's got a plan, and maybe they've got one last shot before the invasive species spread to the rest of the US.

Worth the credit.

After buying several highly rated books and finding myself mind numbingly bored I was happy to have stumbled upon this on. I have sometimes mainstream and more often macabre or unusual tastes in books but I say give it a try. You may just find, like I did, that it was a good book

Exciting, thrilling, fast paced, great book!

Loved this book and can not wait to read more of this authors books! I really enjoyed the characters and discovering the story through the twists and turns of this page turner. I highly recommend this book. Listened to the audible version and was not disappointed by that either. Very well done.

its... written at least.

this was... not great. the story is rather clumsy. the characters arent to great and off kilter most the time.

evidently its possible to learn how to handle and shoot a weapon likr an expert just for holding it for a day, 6 limbs on a vertebrate is nothing special at all, and wont make biologists explode their own asses in shock and awe. the best thing to do in a survival situation full of unknown hostiles is to wander around blindly.

this book is a syfy channel b movie at best. if you have a spare credit and NOTHING looks better, or its on sale for the 5 dollar range, maybe give it a go..

Why was this written

I have never hated protagonist more than I do with this book. The story is a mess, the writing was sub par, two of the three main characters had me rooting for their death while the third felt like a plot device truthfully. I’ve had better stories in d&d games written by kids. All in all a horrible experience. I want my money back and it was free.

Not much

Why does the narrator sound like a kindergarten teacher who decided to become a narrator? I feel like he should be surrounded by kids in a circle. And yes Angela is extremely annoying!! Maybe this could have been a bit better with a different narrator.

Not bad, but the ending!

Reminds me of Stephen Kings’ “The Mist” not a bad pace, the female character is a bit annoying at times.

only if it's still free

One of the main characters is described as brilliant yet in a world that has alien creatures roaming about the following not only ensues but is agreed to by other parties. 20 minutes after coming close to death they want to stop and check on some people the see once a year on their way to vacation. Close encounter with death again when after that let stop and rescue some fish from their tank and set them free in a pond. It starts off with action but I think that was on purpose to try to hook you. The characters are bland and the person who always has the worst ideas is the woman.

This book is weak

I was willing to give a try, I was out of credits and…oh well, it was free. The characters were, at once, one dimensional and over done. The premise, that an isolated mountain valley suddenly is overrun by bloodthirsty monsters with no forewarning, everybody apparently dead or missing, that the best idea is to go wandering in the wilderness with a shotgun and a handgun, both wielded by firearm rookies…. It beggars disbelief.
The three hours (yes THREE HOURS) I listened I’ll never get back,
