Story
About Time offers a delightful return to the world of time travel and light comedy that distinguished Jack Finney’s all-time classic Time and Again. The protagonists of these 12 stories are well-meaning but at odds with their surroundings and their lives. The time to which they escape - through time travel - doesn’t always fulfill their expectations in the way they had hoped, but sometimes, they can still find their dreams.

It was a dark and stormy night when Mary Crane glimpsed the unlit neon sign announcing the vacancy at the Bates Motel. Exhausted, lost, and at the end of her rope, she was eager for a hot shower and a bed for the night. Her room was musty, but clean, and the manager seemed nice, if a little odd.

Story
The long-awaited sequel to Time and Again . Si Morley is back and the world may never be the same. When Time and Again was published in 1970, it immediately developed a loyal following that has grown with each passing year. With this book, Jack Finney returned to the same magical territory and finds Ruben Prien still at work with the Project, still dreaming of altering man's fate by going back in time to adjust events... to interfere, some might say, with destiny.

Much of Richard Matheson's work has found its way into pop culture: The title story became a memorable episode of television's The Twilight Zone, and more recently, Will Smith starred in the blockbuster movie I Am Legend. Stephen King has declared Matheson to be one of his favorite writers. Find out why as you listen to the classic horror story of a man who peers out of his airplane window to see a gremlin destroying the wing.

Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

You probably haven't noticed them. But they've noticed you. They notice everything. That's their job. Sitting quietly in a nondescript car outside a bank making note of the tellers' work habits. Lagging a few car lengths behind the Brinks truck on its daily rounds. Surreptitiously jiggling the handle of an unmarked service door at the racetrack. They're heisters.

If you've never read a Repairman Jack novel, this is the place to begin. It's 1990. A twenty-one-year-old named Jack has dropped out of college, leaving his old life behind to build a new one in New York City. Manhattan's rough edges are jagged enough to shred any unwary newcomer, but perhaps not one who is determined to stay off the grid, at any cost, in the busiest metropolis on earth. And to do so, he'll have to take jobs of a less than legal nature.

Ragle Gumm has a unique job: Every day he wins a newspaper contest. And when he isn’t consulting his charts and tables, he enjoys his life in a small town, in 1959. At least, that’s what he thinks. But then strange things start happening. He finds a phone book where all the numbers have been disconnected, and a magazine article about a famous starlet named Marilyn Monroe, whom he’s never heard of. Plus, everyday objects are beginning to disappear and are replaced by strips of paper with words written on them, like "bowl of flowers" and "soft-drink stand".

A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

John Cray has a secret. For 12 years he has stalked and kidnapped women, setting them loose in the mountains of eastern Arizona, hunting them like animals, and taking their lives. He has left no clues. He is suspected by no one. Or so he thinks. But now he has a problem. Somebody - a woman whose name he doesn't know - is stalking him. She follows him when he makes his nightly rounds in Tucson. She watches him on busy street corners and in shadowy restaurants. She seems to know his secret. But if so, why hasn't she gone to the police?

About Time offers a delightful return to the world of time travel and light comedy that distinguished Jack Finney’s all-time classic Time and Again. The protagonists of these 12 stories are well-meaning but at odds with their surroundings and their lives. The time to which they escape - through time travel - doesn’t always fulfill their expectations in the way they had hoped, but sometimes, they can still find their dreams.

A Compact, Scary, Philosophical SF Horror Tale
When I was a boy driving somewhere with my father I sometimes tormented myself by wondering, "What if he's not my Dad? What if he's a stranger who only looks like him?" Invasion of the Body Snatchers by Jack Finney hair-raisingly exploits such moments of doubt. Finney steadily raises the Creepiness Quotient of his tale the farther we get into it, playing with our inability to ever really know another person. At the same time, his novel features an appealing romance, interesting questions of perception, and disturbing implications of the instinct for survival--as well as a clever use of a set of his and her skeletons. Compared to the movie versions, the ending of the novel is a little unconvincing but finally satisfying.
The reader, Kristopher Tabori, does a fine job. I haven't heard a voice quite like his before in the many audiobooks to which I've listened: deep, gravelly, a little nasal, and full of wit and character and flavor. And he changes his voice just enough to draw out the different personalities of the different characters to enhance rather than distract from the story.
As an added bonus, the novel is followed by a short interesting interview with Tabori, the son of Don Siegel, who directed the original movie version. Tabori reveals that his father said that he was not thinking of McCarthy-ism or Communism when making the movie adaptation of the novel and was just trying to make a scary movie. One of the virtues of the novel is that it is open to different interpretations, all the while being a scary story featuring appealing normal people caught in an abnormal nightmare, doing their best to survive it with their humanity intact.

Absolutely fantastic
Although the narrator of this book, at times, would read much too fast and wouldn’t leave pauses in between some of the narration like you would expect, I really liked this audiobook. Having watched both film versions, the one in the 50s and the one in the 70s, I would have to say that I like the book version much better and after you finish this, you will understand why and wonder why it was changed in the movies.

I have seen both versions of this book as film. As always the book version rules! Love the retro feel of this 1950s era novel. The characterizations were great. The narrator did a good job. Like any really mesmerizing novel I couldn't put it down!

GOOD READ
Old, dated but a classic, and must read.

Much better than I'd expected
I wasn't too sure about this book at first... I'd seen bits and pieces of the movie and thought if it was anything like that I probably wouldn't like it. But I took a chance and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The book hooks you from the very first sentence and wraps you in a blanket of mystery. It was very hard to put this one down and I recommend it to any and everyone.
