Publisher's Summary

The Hunter from the Woods marks the much-anticipated return of Michael Gallatin, the lycanthropic hero of Robert McCammon’s 1989 classic, The Wolf’s Hour. These all-new, interlinked stories offer a full measure of McCammon’s trademark narrative excitement, and comprise a fascinating composite portrait of a unique fictional creation.

The volume opens with a pair of brief glimpses into Michael’s early life in Russia and his initial recruitment into the British Secret Service. It ends with a haunting vision of the werewolf at twilight. In between, McCammon gives us three stellar novellas depicting different phases of Michael’s long, brutal war against Nazi Germany. "Sea Chase" is a nautical tale about the hazards of transporting a defecting German scientist to a place of sanctuary in England. "The Wolf and the Eagle" is the account of an unlikely friendship between rival "men of action" and a harrowing portrayal of a lethal forced march through the North African desert. "The Room at the Bottom of the Stairs" tells of an impossible, ultimately tragic love affair set in the embattled city of Berlin during the latter stages of the war.

Erotic, visceral, and filled with moments of desolating horror and unexpected warmth, The Hunter from the Woods is a triumph of imaginative storytelling. Like the best of McCammon’s earlier work, it offers intelligent, world-class entertainment. In the process, it shines a welcome new light on one of the most uncommon heroes in contemporary fiction.

"Fast Paced and Held My Attention!!!"
    Any additional comments?

I really liked this book. Fast pace and lots of action!

The werewolf concept really held my attention. The writing is very good.

Other books that have good action that I recommend are:
    "Shape's Tiger" (the series)...
    "The Warded Man"
"Beat the Reaper" page turning thriller.
    "Fear Nothing"
    The Eye of the World"
    "The Way of Kings"
    and
    "The Lion's Game"

    "Michael Gallatin Is Superb"

Wow! This was a great book. I loved every novella and am hoping there will be more stories to come. The stories are gripping and the descriptions provided by the author make you feel that you are part of the story. I especially liked the story about Francesca and the last story. It remains that there could be more stories about this fantastic man/wolf and I hope they are published soon. If you like werewolf stories, you'll love this one but read the first book before you read this one so you will understand the significance of the mentions. The narrator is the voice of Michael and you will love every word. I'll be listening to this book again.

"Love this book & the main character"

Delighted to discover Mccammon continues more stories with Michael Gallatin - these stories and The Wolf's Hour would make an amazing tv series - Michael G is much more interesting than Bond .
Would have liked to see more Wolf in these stories though.
I hope McCammon plan to write more about Gallatin - his character is just too good not to continue his adventures -
Spoiler Alert - would love to see his baby son had survived & shows up somewhere in the next story !
Also - The narrator is absolutely perfect

    "Too little wolf."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Not for me to change it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was the very best part of the book and proof that Mr. McCammon intends to return to the world of Michael Galatin!

Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?

    Michael Gallatin.
Love Mr. Rebble's voice. Love his inflection. He was perfect and I would love to hear more books performed by him.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

The stories are too thin to make for a satisfying movie, but would be great episodes for a television series.

    "Awesome surprise at the end!"

Once again, I'm not disappointed in this continuation of the stories if Micheal Gallatin! To get the ending in this book, you must listen to The Wolf's Hour! Thank you Robert McCammom, for this story and I will be eagerly awaiting more stories with Micheal and the mystery person revealed in this book!!

    "Pretty good"

I love the concept of this book. However his ability to transform to a wolf not werewolf is barely needed. The author seems to enjoy the storyline rather than the concept. He seems to prefer the man more than the wolf. I would have enjoyed this book more if the author would have loved both characters equally. The story when he was in Germany was really good.

"Collection of Short stories or edited chapters??"

Most of the "short stories" seemed to be chapters or parts of chapters, edited out of original book, "The Wolf's Hour". Especially, the 1st and 2nd stories and the very last story (possibly the original epilogue to first wolf book???)!
    Well written, yes.
    Excellent narrator, yes!
Would I buy another collection of short stories from Robert McCammon, NO!

some excellent insight into Michael, and the last 25 minutes were epic terrible and cruel to the reader.

    "Great Short Stories"

We learn more of Michael's life through tales at sea, in the desert and back at his adopted home, Wales.

The trip at sea was probably the best, having just watched "Black Sea", you could really appreciate how cramped, dangerous and tense everything was.
