Publisher's summary

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, The Host is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

The Host

Very interesting and keeps pulling you in. You fight within yourself on who to root for Melanie or Wanda. Loved the narration kept the book in it's intended emotional and surreal rollercoaster. It's hard to say which one of the Stephanie Meyers book is better Twilight or The Host. I enjoy both and have listened to them mutiple times.

My favorite Meyers book so far!

I am a fan of Meyers' vampire series so I thought I'd try The Host. The story was great, with a lot of character building that I appreciated and depth to the storyline. The narrator did an excellent job with all the characters and the tempo was read perfectly! Very Engrossing. A must read.

Too long

Ok -I'm gonna go out on a limb here. All of the other reviews have said that the story was great -which it was. However, this story could have been told in less than the 23 hours it took to tell it without losing anything. Stephenie Meyer is a fabulous writer and Kate Reading once again does a great job narrating. My only critique is that it's too long.

Great story!

This book reminded me a bit of body snatchers but it had so much more going on in it. I didn't think thy would pull off a good ending but they did. Characters were believable and narration was done very nicely.

A book a listen to time and time again. Love it!

I really loved this book, both the story and narration. I got so emotionally connected to the characters and the story hooked me completely. It is rare for me to get so attached to characters that I get choked up, but it happened to me more than once.

Left all others in the dust

If you could sum up The Host in three words, what would they be?

Amazing. Epic. Realistic.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Host?

A memorable moment is when the main character, 'Wanderer" is explaining her species process for giving life.

What about Kate Reading’s performance did you like?

At first, I didn't like it. I did not like the redundant cadence in which words were pronounced. I believe that it was like this do to the main character's point of view. Either that was the case or I got used to it and grew to enjoy it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Several chapters are heart wrenching. My eyes did water and I sat fanning my eyes in my car. There are several moments like this in the book.

Any additional comments?

I am so glad I chose to download this audiobook. I was never inclined to read a trendy book. The Twilight Novels were never on my list of books to read. I am glad I did not cast away Stephanie Meyer as an author though. Right now, The Host is the best book I've read in well over a decade. I truly stand by it. Her writing style is phenomenal. The concept of the book appealed to me. A different option for the 'post-apoc' fan base. Not a zombie in sight. Something feasible. I am actually planning to read this book again, although I only just finished it. It is by far the favorite in my collection of not only audiobooks, but books period. I am glad I read before viewing the movie. It does make me more curious on seeing the movie as well.
