    Any additional comments?

This is your typical zombie apocalypse book. I really enjoy that genre, so this one was no different. The book has action, zombies, and people. The book is well-written and the narrator did a very good job bringing the characters to life.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

    "Killing Zombies in costume... stylish!"

The Horror Squad is a short serialized book about a group of people trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. It's read in the first person and seems to be an auto-biography because the main character has the same name as the author. Hmmm,,,,,

Because of the genre, there has to be an obligatory comparison to The Walking Dead. There are a lot of similarities to TWD, and I can almost envision this group being in the same timespace as Rick's group and meeting up at some point. What was missing was any sort of conflict in the story. Sure there were zombies, but they were always dispatched with ease by the group. Besides an attempt at sexual assault, nothing bad happened to any of the characters. They seemed too.... safe, if that makes any sense. Granted this changes towards the end of the book. And even this was a sudden, jarring, screech to the finish, accumulating in a cliff-hanger ending. Is there a sequel? I see nothing on the Audible page that this book is part of a series, but the cliffhanger ending would imply a series.

In contrast with other reviews, I believe Mr. Salzman did a great job narrating and his voice suited many of the characters One one hand he has this natural Michigan accent, but can do southern "good 'ole boy" accents perfectly. Kudos to your talent sir! One minor nitpick is the narrator's choice of narrating the "...he said..." and "...she replied..." sections of text after a character speaks. The delivery seems very mechanical and monotone, almost pre-recorded, and there were times it was distracting. If Mr. Salzman could make these transitions out of the character speaking more organic in future performances, he would be a 5-star narrator.

This audio book was gifted to me by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

I got into this book but I felt like nothing pulled me in. I enjoyed the story line but it left me feeling like I wanted more. The narrator was easy to listen to and perfect for this book. “This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobookboom”

    "Amazing story of the apocylpse"

The world has changed but there is one group just trying to survive. As part of the group lives in the power plant/school area and keeps it up and running, the other part has to go out frequently and scavenge for food and other supplies that might help during this apocalypse. It is during one of these trips that things go very wrong.

This was a exciting, action filled, suspenseful, story of survival. I totally enjoyed listening to S.W. Salzman narrating this book, he does such a awesome job with all the different characters and expressing their emotions in his voice, it was amazing. I can't wait for more to hear what happens to T.J. and the crew.

This is a fairly good book for all zombie lovers. The narration was great. My only complaint it was too short and leaves you hanging. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. Thank you

"Good thing it's only 3 hours............"

I really hate that even though I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review, that I have to leave such a negative accounting of the book. The only reason I was able to eventually finish is because it's only 3 hours and I wanted my review to be accurate for the entire book.

First, what does the cover have to do with this book? Is this a steam punk sci-fi apocalypse? Maybe it has something to do with the later books in the series (that are not on audio.) Just ignore the cover because it has nothing to do with this book. Don't get your hopes up for some bad *ss zombie slaying women, because they're not here.

To put it bluntly, I just didn't like the author. He wrote like a teenage boy. By the pen name "TJ," I didn't know if it was male or female, but it's VERY obvious this is a male writing this. He actually said "that's gay" at one point. VERY teenage boy writing style in every aspect of this book.

There were too many flashbacks and no indication that it's a flashback. We're at a present scene one second, a flashback the next second with no pause, no mention of the new timeline, no mention of which character is speaking, etc. It just ended up being a garbled mess!

Then there's the narrator. What happened to him? I've listened to him before and he was pretty good. It's like he was told to keep this at exactly 3 hours, which made him skip most pauses between sentences, give no indication of chapter change and speak in a monotone, bored out of his mind, manner the entire book. I'm sorry Mr. Salzman, but it was really bad. Maybe you realized there was just no saving this book?

    "Standard Zombie Fare"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I could not finish the audiobook due to the narrator. He has a decent enough voice, but his reading feels a little wooden/mechanical. I ended up just reading the ebook. I did like the story, though I am not a fan of cliff hanger endings.

What did you like best about this story?

    The action and the humor.

How could the performance have been better?

If the narrator read a bit more casually.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Sure, I collect Zombie movies.

    Any additional comments?

I received a copy of this audiobook for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.

    "Completely generic and uninteresting"

This story is your typical post-apocalyptic zombie story. You've got some survivors that have made a safe haven for themselves. You've got the team that goes out scavenging for supplies for camp. You've got your evil living, and of course, your walking dead. It's all pretty par for the course, and sadly, this story brings nothing new to the table.

The main characters are barely distinguishable from each other, and none of them, aside from the leader, are particularly interesting -- and he only stands out (aside from being the leader) because he was basically a prick. I think the author thought they were writing some righteous defender of morality, but what they delivered was a 2 dimensional prick.

The story follows our sterotypical scavengers as they search for supplies, fend off the dead and deal with various types of the living. We also follow the somewhat civilized day-to-day of the families they leave behind at camp as they deal with the typical issues prevelant in these types of stories. It's all as robotic as I describe here. Again, not terribly interesting.

Perhaps part of it has to do with the robotic way in which Salzman narrated. He sounded just as bored as I felt -- I pictured him filing his nails and silently sighing. Though I think most of the blame lies with the author. The prose is very amateurish and the dialog is maddening ("he said". "she replied", "replied XXX").

It ends with a sudden cliffhanger, but I personally felt no desire to continue listening. I don't care about these characters. I don't care what happens to them and I don't care what they do. The story IS short though, so that alone may make it worth a download to see if the material works for you.

I was provided this book for free in exchange for my honest review. My thoughts are my own and ar enot influenced by that gift. I hope my honest feedback is of help.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I can't really recommend this work. It did not grab me or move me. I found it flat.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I can't think of an interesting aspect to the story. I also can't think of anything least interesting.

Would you be willing to try another one of S.W. Salzman’s performances?

No, “This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”I don't think I would like to try any other works read by Mr. Salzman.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No.
