Publisher's summary

The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of 13 dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an unexpected journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon....

The prelude to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies since its publication in 1937, establishing itself as one of the most beloved and influential books of the 20th century.

A great audiobook for the Tolkien's masterpiece!

I read this book twice: first it was translated to Portuguese, second in English. It is one of the best aventure/epic book I ever read. The audiobook performed bay Rob Inglis allowed me to live This aventure in a deep way. He chance the voice tone for each character.

A classic with a solid narration

The story is a well-loved classic with a more child-like introduction to the world that went on to be developed in The Lord of the Rings. Inglis' performance is very effective with good character differentiation but smooth enough to prevent jolting you out of the experience.

Rob's voice, Tolkien's words. Pure joy!

Loved every minute!

It can't be compared to Book 0 in the Lord of The Rings series, The Silmarillion, not because it lacked anything. It was just a completely different experience.

We got a close look at, and got to know Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Gray, Thorin Oakenshield and party, and many more, through an exciting tale of struggles and prosperity.

Looking forward to revisit this book. But for now, it's on to the next in the series, book 1, Lord of the Rings.

There and Back Again.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this parents and children who love a good story. Filled with humour and memorable characters and well read by Rob Ingliss. This is probably the best children's story ever written.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bilbo Baggins as he just muddled along but somehow manages to get by and provide a little help along the way, even if he is reluctant at first.

What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?

Rob Ingliss gives a good performance but they should have had someone who can sing perform the songs in the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The rescue of Bilbo and the dwarves by the eagles was one of my favourite moments in The Hobbit.

Perfect

Even better than reading it yourself, the narrator does a splendid job! He makes the characters come alive and even sings the songs!

A classic that gets better with age

It has been a while since I read The Hobbit, and my *goodness* does it stand up. I listened to Rob Inglis’ version on the recommendation of Destin Sandlin of No Dumb Questions, and would heartily recommend it to others as well.

Sound issues through the whole book

Something like falling water drops you can hear all the time. Very annoying. Story and performance is absolutely perfect.
