    Excellent; except it's abridged

I enjoyed every minute; it's just too little of it because it's abridged. I cannot imagine why anyone would create an abridged version of such a beloved classic.

    Volume issues

Loved the story, but the volume would shift drastically at points to where hearing the words required volume adjustment. Also, the singing was not the best. But it was still exciting and entertaining.

great story. good attempt at cast.

it is a great story and a good attempt at having a cast read dialogue. I wish I would have seen the recorded books version the have the completed unabridged story. still it was a great story to listen to at work.

    Excellent performance!

The voice cast was excellent, the narrator did a great job, and it was a beautiful piece of audio drama!

    Back to my childhood

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hobbit (Dramatized) to be better than the print version?

Listening to the Hobbit took me back to my childhood when my father and I would read aloud and act out the voices. It is hard to compare audio to print as I love the feel of a book in my hands, I will say that I felt very much involved in the story as I listened to it unfold.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gandalf has always been my favorite character. He has the uncanny ability to encourage the characters to push past their comfort zones to do his bidding; while they feel like it is completely of their own volition.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration does match the pace of the story, which as we all know about Tolkein is frenzied at times and incredibly, heart achingly slow at others. The narration seems to pace the story as it was written to be read.

    Any additional comments?

I have fallen asleep many times listening to this story, and always wake up from strange dreams to the voice of Golum. I might not suggest as a "bedtime story" if you are a light sleeper.

    the story itself.

Would you listen to another book narrated by An Ensemble Cast?

    no.

Did The Hobbit (Dramatized) inspire you to do anything?

All of the characters sounded like old weak voiced men...The Narrator Could not pronounce the well known Author's name correctly...disapointing.

    My favorite version!

Best Version in my opinion. Love the music, like what you would hear in the great hall of a castle.
