Publisher's summary

A dynamic remastering of the second BBC Radio 4 full-cast serial - Fit the Seventh to Fit the Twelfth - which spawned a phenomenal hitchhiking legend.

The second original series of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy remastered by Dirk Maggs (director of the Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential Phases) to give a full, vibrant sound, now with Philip Pope’s version of the familiar theme tune and specially re-recorded announcements by John Marsh.

Stranded on Prehistoric Earth since the end of the first series, Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect are once again trying to hitch their way off the planet. Zaphod finds his visit to the offices of the Guide rudely interrupted by Frogstar fighters, who further threaten to feed him to the Total Perspective Vortex. Eventually reunited, the three fetch up on the planet Brontitall and discover the indigenous species in something of a flap. Arthur meets Lintilla (several of her), Marvin gets to be a hero once again, and there is a meeting with the Man in the Shack who apparently runs the Universe....

Peter Jones, Simon Jones, Geoffrey McGivern, Mark Wing-Davey, Stephen Moore and a full supporting cast star in these BBC Radio 4 episodes.

Also included is a bonus 50-minute interview with Douglas Adams - who died in 2001 - in which he discusses his career and work.

Tripe

I like this books from the beginning because they blew up the earth in the first 15 minutes of the start of the radio show.

Radio Broadcast

This is the original radio drama production, and includes an interview with the author at the end. Good audio quality and chaptering.

The second half of the classic

Any additional comments?

This collects the second 6 episodes of the 12 found on the US cassette edition of the radio show. There is also an interview with the cast that continues form the interview collected in the primary phase. Lots of fun.

books, radio script, no towel

You can say I am fan of H2G2. Heck, I bought " A Salmon of Doubt." I have read the radio scripts and enjoyed this immensely. Talking myself into parts 3, 4 and 5.

So Good I Forgot to Review!

I listened to this with such relish that I started it, finished it, and started & finished the next audio drama before I realized I never entered either into Goodreads! If that doesn't tell you how much I enjoyed it, I don't know what will 😆 The Hitchhiker's Guide series has been among my lifetime favorites since childhood and listening to these dramas for the first time in decades has shown me that my appreciation for the material has only grown as I've aged. The stories are just as plausible as they are ridiculous and I think their firm grounding in science and logic is what gives them evergreen appeal. I can't wait to listen to the rest!

Remastered?

I grew up with this series from cassette tapes to CDs but the sound was much better in my old formats. It could be the device on which I'm listening, but even with superior headphone, on which everything else sounds good, I'm constantly adjusting the volume and not hearing enough dialogue. I don't understand why it doesn't sound better. I still rate it 4- stars because of what it is, and they've added some nice interviews with Douglas Adams, which do sound fine.
