Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

Listen to the rest of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy."

Great book indeed!

This is a very creative way to describe the universe and life in other galaxies and planets, and how they relate to our planet earth, recommended!

5 stars from Denmark

I've really been looking forward to this book and I was not disipointed. Great story and performance by Stephen Fry... loved every second!

The world's about to end...

Earth, a mostly harmless place, is about to be demolished by to make way for a hyperspatial express route. But Don't Panic! Grab the nearest towel, turn on your electronic sub-etha signalling device (or whatever you listen to your audio books on), and begin your highly improbable adventure. If you've listened to the version read by Douglas Adams, like myself, you will be pleased by this version.

Different but funny

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to be better than the print version?

Yes, my son, who this audio is for, enjoys listening to books better than reading them and this one is no exception.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Zefadbeblerocks (spelling is not right but we don't have the book to check it)

Which scene was your favorite?

When they are on the improbable planet.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, it was pretty funny, corny but funny.

A wholly remarkable book.

I liked the story, but, if you don't pay attention, this book is very, very confusing.

I don't really like the thing of God not being real. It's not true people!!!!!!!!

The reason performance is 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because of the way the chapters are. There can be like six chapters in one... segment, I guess.

Anyways, this is a good book.

Short pauses.

My only complaint is that the pauses between chapters and elsewhere are really short--almost nonexistent. Still one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to.

absolutely hilarious narration and story!

a whimsically British story about an author's interpretation of space. everything from the wording down to the narration is pure gold and you will not regret listening to this book.
