Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

Listen to the rest of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy."

The spirited (but friendly) debate over these titles could have gone on indefinitely. With years of listening, countless customer reviews, and a catalog of seemingly infinite great listens, 100 suddenly felt like a very small number. What we know for sure—each title that made it to this collection is elevated and made special in some way by audio, whether by a layered performance from a single narrator, a brilliantly cohesive full cast, original music, or immersive sound effects. Discover an audio experience for the ages.

Comedic Trip Through Space

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" to a friend because it is a hilarious, imaginative and excellently narrated tale.

What other book might you compare The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to and why?

The Space Odyssee book about Hal the Computer. Hitchhiker reminded me of it with the Deep Thought computer.

What about Stephen Fry’s performance did you like?

His inflection, his slightly English-sounding voice and his spot-on delivery.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Arthur takes a trip in outer space.

Any additional comments?

No.

Good read

Loved this book, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the absurdly comical. Stephen Fry's narration was a pleasure.

Best narrator I've heard.

Not only is the book hilariously insightful, but Fry's performance makes it immeasurably greater. Adams challenges some of our most fundamental assumptions about life and the universe with the wit and humour of the best of Monty Python.

Still a classic!

Steven Fry brings all the humor out of Douglas Adams work... it was like reading it for the first time again, and enjoying all the quirky characters as he satirises technology and it's limitations for humanity.
