Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

A entertaining preformance

Fry uses a great variety of voices making dialogue easy to follow. The story arch makes sense and it presented in a way where all the meeting points make sense. I have never read the series before but now intend to finish it. Simply put an entertaining adventure. While it was highly improbable I did greatly enjoy this.

Python in space?

Would you listen to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy again? Why?

Yes, it's just plain funny! Interestingly cool SciFi elements smothered with impeccably timed sarcasms and whit.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

The entire scene and explanation of Vogon poetry is just one of many.

Have you listened to any of Stephen Fry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he was very good. I think he shows that this was meant to be heard originally and brings this out in the material.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Every time I realized I was actually laughing out loud.

Any additional comments?

Even it you have read this material you owe it to yourself to hear it as well.

Comic relief from the Pandemic news

Needed some relief from the news. have known about HHG forever but never got around to reading it. Got out and prepared the garden beds while listening, feel like I can soldier on a little longer now. Marvin the depressed robot was a hoot. I usually have trouble with British accents, but this narrator hit the right balance.

So Long, And Thanks For All The Laughs

I grew up reading the books and I always enjoyed the movie. Hearing the whole book from the voice of Stephen Fry really makes it complete to me. Truly wish he’d done all 6 books but I’m content with this. Absolutely worth the listen.
