Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

Just Incredible.

Adams's humor didn't fail to crack me up, and Fry's voice acting was incredibly good. Well, except for Marvin, I felt like his voice didn't quite match up. And now, if you don't mind, I'll start listening to it again.

I loved this book. saw the movie a long time ago and wanted to read it but never could find the physical copy. Stephen Fry really makes this audible come together.

The narrator is absolutely incredible - he does such an amazing job bringing this story to life. The book is very well written, very smart and very funny. If you're looking for something a bit different with humor and science, this is for you. I highly recommend this book!

Definitely a different kind of humor

Thoroughly enjoyed the narrator. If you like Monty Python and the Holy Grail then you'll love this.

Excellent performance

I really wanted to like the story. but didn't I imagine this is a book that I would have enjoying more if I had read it when I was young. The performance of the book was outstanding.

it's alright

wasn't the greatest book. had some good humor and writing is ok. but the ending is terrible. much left to be finished, but I guess that wasn't necessarily the purpose of the book. I wouldn't buy it again, I would recommend it for middle school or maybe some Highschool aged readers. I never read it then so tried it now.
