Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

Listen to the rest of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy."

Really enjoyed this short novel. Even though it's only five hours, its worth the listen.

Amazing

One of the best book I have even read. The performance is amazing, he differentiates between voices and add so much more to an already great book.

I've Come Back To Hitchhike Once More

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to be better than the print version?

There is no doubt that Stephen Fry has entered our universe in order to narrate. I'm so glad he's chosen the works of Douglas Adams as part of his destiny. He gives good voice.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

Every chapter is memorable.

Have you listened to any of Stephen Fry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've been following Stephen Fry for a long time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. No. No. I like spreading a good listen out.

Any additional comments?

I had read this years ago — and I even have an autographed copy from the much-missed Douglas Adams. When I saw that Stephen Fry had done the narration, I decided to fly away once more on the brilliance and humor of Douglas Adams.

Absolutely amazing!

This was the first audiobook I ever got and boy, its got me hooked! I had read the book a few years ago, then saw the (disappointing) movie.

This audiobook was amazingly performed. Stephen Fry is a global treasure and I can't praise his delivery enough. Love it! Would 100% recommend it!

Amazing and hilarious

I love the book and I love Stephen Fry's rendering, it's perfect. I had hoped the rest of the books from the series were voice by him too, but sadly that's not the case. I refuse tu buy the rest unless they are voiced by Stephen Fry.
Also, the index for the books chapters is all wrong. Otherwise, perfect.

Great story, chapter markers messed up

Excellent story and performance, absolutely hilarious.

The chapter markers seemed to be messed up though, only 5 chapters are listed.
