Publisher's summary

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

Together this dynamic pair begin a journey through space aided by quotes from The Hitchhiker's Guide ("A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.") and a galaxy full of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian, Zaphod's girlfriend (formally Tricia McMillan), whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student who is obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he bought over the years.

Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do we spend so much time in between wearing digital watches? For all the answers stick your thumb to the stars. And don't forget to bring a towel!

Great Story

The narrator has a great voice first of all. The story is classic for any reader who enjoys the idea of leaving the planet earth. It is also notable that the book does not try to push on comedy for the sake of it, and pushes a good narrative for those addicted to interstellar stories. The "dolphin" quote is also memorable.

A Tremendous Reading

One of my favorite books from my teenage years, this version read by Stephen Fry sounds the way it would have in my head, if only my head would have possessed an awesome British accent during my teen years. It is a version I foresee myself playing and replaying for many years.

Five Stars!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to be better than the print version?

I love this book! In fact, I make sure that this book is always downloaded on my phone just in case I don't have anything to listen to. I have listened to this book twice and I still found myself laughing out loud. Douglas Adams keeps you entertained and the performance is outstanding. I recommend this to anyone who wants to be entertained!

Stephan Fry is a brilliant story teller and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is exponentially better when performed.

Loved it!

Stephen Fry‘s performance was amazing he changed the voices of characters and really help to you imagine the story as he told it. The story was it’s self really funny and a great overall story to listen to and get lost in. Normally I listen to more of personal development, business and spiritual audiobooks which are harder to listen to because it’s usually someone just speaking more monotone and they can be harder to finish because even. though the content is good the way they are read make them a little bit more boring. Not only was the story good in this book but Stephen Fry’s performance and how he read it made it so much better, I wasn’t too familiar with this book before hand but I had heard about it, if you wanna good novel to get lost in definitely give this a shot

Great narration. Really makes the story.

The story was good, really clever/funny and entertaining. However there was nothing strikingly astounding about it.
