Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.

Who is the Hero of Ages?

To end the Final Empire and restore freedom, Vin killed the Lord Ruler. But as a result, the Deepness - the lethal form of the ubiquitous mists - is back, along with increasingly heavy ashfalls and ever more powerful earthquakes. Humanity appears to be doomed.

Having escaped death at the climax of The Well of Ascension only by becoming a Mistborn himself, Emperor Elend Venture hopes to find clues left behind by the Lord Ruler that will allow him to save the world. Vin is consumed with guilt at having been tricked into releasing the mystic force known as Ruin from the Well. Ruin wants to end the world, and its near omniscience and ability to warp reality make stopping it seem impossible. She can't even discuss it with Elend, lest Ruin learn their plans!

The conclusion of the Mistborn trilogy fulfills all the promise of the first two books. Revelations abound, connections rooted in early chapters of the series click into place, and surprises, as satisfying as they are stunning, blossom like fireworks to dazzle and delight. It all leads up to a finale unmatched for originality and audacity that will leave listeners shaking their heads in wonder, as if awaking from an amazing dream.

All no hints hidden

He gave us everything we needed to salve the mystery yet most have no idea of the twists that await them.

End of the trilogy

I personally enjoyed it very much. As is usual for me in large stories, it took me a while to sense that the ball was rolling, or rather, this being a Brian Sanderson book, several balls rolling, but once they were, I didn't want to stop. Plus the narrator brings individuality to each character, making the whole journey an enjoyable experience.

Not where I thought this was going!

This series has the nail biting suspense you should expect from the cosmere. In fact 2/3 of the way through this novel I was certain I had been duped into seeing with awful clarity an experience so dark I would be forced to discard the series to preserve my poor battered sanity. I persevered if only for the wonderful performance of Michael Kramer and the deep intricate mental illustration I always appreciate from Brandon Sanderson. I strongly recommend you do the same. This is an excellent book with a wonderful ending despite the fact that the initial experience, up to this point in the series, was painful. 5 stars

Wasn’t sure at first...

I had started reading the Wheel of Time series in paperback preaudible (way too long ago) and had become bored by book 5. Although I remember really liking the first 4, and despite owning at least 9 of them, I had never picked it up again. But I found myself wanting a new book series to hold me over until a sequel to a great book came out, and many peoples reviews lead me to the Mistborn series. Knowing that Sanderson had taken over the WoT series was a little off putting since the books on the shelf had mocked my inability to continue the series for years. However, every single review I read for various other books referenced this series, gushing over its brilliance. And the sheer number of 4 & 5 star reviews finally convinced me to get over my prejudice and try book one.
It started slowly I thought (although I may just have been stubbornly resistant), but I soon found myself making excuses to continue listening. I listened in the shower, in the car, at work, in meetings, in the middle of the night when I got up to pee... I couldn’t ‘put it down’. After book 1, I ravenously consumed books 2 and 3, and now realize it has only been a week since I started and I find myself again in search of a new book.
I absolutely loved this series. The details in the story invoked great imagery and I could feel the mists and ash. The story line kept me guessing, and pleasantly surprised me several times. I even found myself talking out loud at times trying to tell various characters information to help them. I am amazed at Sanderson’s ability to weave such a complex and intricate story with so many moving parts. And then to have the conclusion be so wonderfully poetic and, looking back, so fitting and sensible... amazing!
I laughed, I was frustrated, I cried...
I will be reading it again! And again! And again!
