Publisher's Summary

The human was an expert sniper-and a psychopath. He had never failed in the past when he stalked human prey. But now he is on an enemy planet, and his prey is anything but human.

The Darhel are a race with a highly developed empathic sense. Long ago, they learned that they cannot deal death to another intelligent being without being destroyed by the death agonies of their victim. Even though they have been manipulating other species behind the scenes for millennia, including the humans of planet Earth, they cannot bear to kill another being, and depend on other, less sensitive beings, to do their dirty work.

But now one of the Darhel must kill or be killed. And the fate, not only of his own race, but all of humanity, is riding on his survival. The course of the next thousand years will be determined by whether or not he can learn to fight back. If he cannot, it will be too late...for the entire galaxy.

    "So-so"

This is only a fair story overall, and poor for John Ringo. It gets VERY long in the middle. It is well written but the plot it thin in the second half. If you are reading this to stay up with the Legacy of the Aldenata series you can skip this one, it is only a very small side story. Too bad I can not get a refund on an audio book.

    "Not a bad book"

I have been reading the entire Aldenata series and have so far loved it. However this book has nothing to do with the series in the order they are written anyway. It is set 100s of years after the book before it and can be skipped if trying to read the series. As far as the book goes, it is pretty good but not near as good as the rest of the series .

"Good, but not directly part of Legacy of Aldenata"

I enjoy all of the Aldenata series by John Ringo, and this was no exception. I like Marc Vietor as a narrator and he did a great job on this story. Ringo's style lends itself very well to the spoken word and that makes these great audio books.

Marc varied the characterizations for the main characters well. He brought a different energy to each to make them unique. I have not read the original source material so I cannot compare it to my reading of the book, but I enjoyed the tale very much.

My only complaint is that this book should not be classified as part of the "main line" of the Legacy of the Aldenata series -- it takes place a considerable period of time after the other four books in the main thread and has spoilers for other "related" books that pick up their stories more closely on the heals of the original story thread. Unfortunately Audible includes this book as part of the main story so that is why I bought it before the others.

If you want to follow the narrative more closely then I suggest wait to read this one until you have read the Cally's War series and the other adjunct books.

    "Great Story"

The Aldenata series is very well read. the Hero is the 5th book out of 12. It takes you where you never would think. The book is about 1,000 years after the Posleen Wars. I think there worth listening to.

"Its OK, But Not in Sequence"
    Any additional comments?

This story was definitely out of place in the series. It took me a while to get in to it. It gets much better in the latter parts, but this was not in line with the rest of the series. Overall I guess I enjoyed it, but if I knew what I know now, I would have skipped it until the end of the series.

"Legacy of the Aldenata Not Realy"

I must say that this was an ok story, but I wouldn't consider it a true part of the "Legacy of the Aldenata" series. It only makes references to the characters and species in the pervious books. I think it could have just been written and published as a stand alone book. I believe "The Tuloriad" is better to be book 5 for this series. This book had no transition from "Hell's Faire". Throughout the entire book we are waiting for that link, It never comes!

"Nothing to do with original series"

I started this book with the thought it would wrap up the series, or be some tyep of continuation. I was not expecting that all the characters from the original series would be gone, the technology different, the storyline different, pretty much everythign different.

I listened to the first two hours, and then gave up, as this could not hold my interest, perhaps I was expecting somethign else. Not sure if it got any better

    "Disappointed"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The book as a whole was fine. I think someone looking for a short sci-fi space hunt would like it fine.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

More background on dagger. The twist was out of the blue and very cold and sudden.

Did Marc Vietor do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Reader was good with the different characters and seemed to be able to mimic the different types of personalities well.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment in that it had very little to do with the rest of the series. I've spoken to a couple of other people who have started the series and they both stopped reading after this book. Too much of a jump in time line.

    Any additional comments?

I'd consider taking this book out of the series or maybe put it last so that the series flows better. Don't get me wrong, it's a good book and I enjoyed it. Just thought it had nothing to do with the series and maybe even a typo as to it's placement in the series.

"Not a continuation of the O'Neal story"

This story takes place long in the future of the events involving the O'Neal's. It introduces new characters that come across as one story characters that won't be missed. While John Ringo is very descriptive in his writing, the story is weak, simply put a special ops team tries to survive on a hostile plant.

    "Echoing those before"

While not horrible, the "chase" does drag on a bit. I agree with the other reviewers that claim this one seems to be an anomaly in the Aldenata series in that it is set far in the future and seems to have little relation to the books before it.

Still, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Where does The Hero rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Top and enjoyable, likeable and fun.

What other book might you compare The Hero to, and why?

Like I stated in all of my reviews to Chris Fieldwater's books IRA Intrusion, is one

Have you listened to any of Marc Vietor’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I liked the Ghost and follow on books, I did not enjoy the sex to detailed, but I over looked that because I love a good read or in my case audio books.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hell is like a walk in the park,

    Any additional comments?

    Keep writing,
