When the Spellplague ravages Faerûn, Drizzt and his companions are caught in the chaos. Masterful

This is one of the more shocking endings I’ve seen in a Salvatore book. Didn’t see that coming! It’s very sad but happy at the same time. Mark Bramhall is masterful at narration. I mean ‘WOW!’ Will go out of my way to find other books narrated by him.

This book is great.

Under the pressures of WotC, RA Salvatore needed to advance the timeline of the series to match the rest of the Realms. This particular book ties up a lot of the loose ends that the "transition" creates. It is very beautifully done.

Also, a lot of people hate on Mark Bramhall, but I think he does a great job. People love Victor Bevine, and so do I, but if Mark had been reading these from the beginning no one would say a bad word about him... except for the "Piekel" thing. :)

A Fantastic Conclusion to an Era in the Realms!

A lot of the other reviewers are very harsh on the narrator. However, I listened to Mark narrate the Magician's trilogy before I had started on the Drizzt series and compared to the other narrator that stepped in for Victor in "Road of the Patriarch" Mark does a much better job at keeping me in the story. Sure he messes up some of the pronunciation of the names, but RA Salvatore himself didn't know how to say Drizzt's name after coming up with it so I enjoy the alternative pronunciation that Mark gives here. One thing Mark does not have down like Victor Bevine is the voice of Drizzt, but I loved his Bruenor, Pwent, and Athrogate as they are more in line with what I always thought a Dwarf should sound like. The story itself is superb as it explains the events that lead up to and took place during the early days of the Spellplague. Be prepared with some tissues for the ending as it is definitely a bitter ending with a lot of iconic characters of the series finding their untimely end.

I liked it!

Mark Bramhall is a wonderful narrator I like him as much as Victor Bevine, they just have different styles of narration. Where Victor has an amazing range of voices Mark has gravitas and lends a more dramatic effect to the story.
