Publisher's summary

In this prequel to The Sword of Shannara, in which many details of the Four Lands' history are revealed, Druids, horrified by the misuse of magic, have eschewed it in favor of science. But Bremen the Druid studies magic, and becomes an outcast on its account. Bremen discovers that an invincible army of trolls are fast conquering all that lay to their south. Before them come the Nazgul-like Skull Bearers, disfigured and transformed Druids who have fallen prey to the dark arts. And at their head is an evil archmage and former Druid called Brona. Bremen realizes that if the peoples of the Four Lands are to evade slavery, they will have to unite. But to defeat Brona, they will need a mighty weapon: the Sword of Shannara.

Captivating almost to the end

I The narrative has a great balance of interior and exterior events, mental and actual. The cast of characters is diverse and clothed enough to be interesting. The only boring part was the overly long battle scene. “Many died, and here’s what happened to those who did not” would have been sufficient.

A fantastic read.

I read this book when I was much younger and it was awesome to do so again. A very good story. Scott Brick does a great job of narrating.

A True Pleasure

I have read and listened to a great number of books, this book in particular is one of my favorites. I find the desire to listen to it several times a year. I find that Scott Brick has a voice like no other clear, strong, precise, PERFECT.

An amazing prequel to the Sword of Shannara.

Loved this as much as the first book. Emotion action packed run, great history of the four lands. Great narration.

Very Good Narrator

very good narrating of the story. the story itself felt a little generic to me, but it was still definitely worth the listen.

Finally starting from the beginning!

I have started with Elfstones of Shannara 20 years ago. I am finally starting from the beginning and seeing where this journey takes me.

Start of the l classic

I am glad terry brooks went back in time and wrote a prequel to The Sword if Shannara. It really helps to filling the gaps and you get a sense of how things came to be by the time the Sword of Shannara took place. I have read it myself twice and enjoyed listening to it for the first time on audible. Worth while book. especially for young adults.
