Publisher's summary

From the authors of the instant New York Times best seller The Strain comes the next volume in one of the most imaginative and frightening thriller series in many, many years.

Last week they invaded Manhattan. This week they will destroy the world. The vampiric virus unleashed in The Strain has taken over New York City. It is spreading and soon will envelop the globe. Amid the chaos, Eph Goodweather - head of the Centers for Disease Control's team - leads a band out to stop these bloodthirsty monsters. But it may be too late.

Ignited by the Master's horrific plan, a war erupts between Old and New World vampires, each vying for control. At the center of the conflict lies a book, an ancient text that contains the vampires' entire history... and their darkest secrets. Whoever finds the book can control the outcome of the war and, ultimately, the fate of us all. And it is between these warring forces that humans - powerless and vulnerable - find themselves no longer the consumers but the consumed.

Though Eph understands the vampiric plague better than anyone, even he cannot protect those he loves. His ex-wife, Kelly, has been transformed into a bloodcrazed creature of the night, and now she stalks the city looking for her chance to reclaim her Dear One: Zack, Eph's young son.

With the future of humankind in the balance, Eph and his team, guided by the brilliant former professor and Holocaust survivor Abraham Setrakian and exterminator Vasiliy Fet, and joined by a crew of ragtag gangsters, must combat a terror whose ultimate plan is more terrible than anyone has imagined - a fate worse than annihilation.

Awesome horror novel

Even though the narrator wasn't Ron Perlman I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. This was as good as the 1st one and I'm looking forward to reading the 3rd and last 1.

Great follow up to the first book

Read the first book in this series before you get this one. I loved the fact he stayed true to the characters and storyline.

BRING RON BACK PLEASE!!!

Very disappointed to not have Ron Perlman reading. It would have been nice if Daniel Oreskes would have pronounced the main character's name the same way it was pronounced in the 1st book! Complete let down!

Pretty Good

I read the First book in the series. Half Read and Listened to this one. I find that I get bogged down with some of the Tech talk. Listening to it helps it move a little faster. I do have to say that I'm a fan. I like Monsters. It's good to see something different in the Vampire genre. I look forward to listening to the third Installment... I know it comes out 10/25/11 in print, I'm not sure about the audible version.

Also In my opinion the Narrator was really good. I believe the voice can make or break your experience.

Better than the first book!

The story really takes off in book 2. It seems the writer finds his groove - the pace picks up, the characters have mpre depth and are more sympathetic, and the storyline itself becomes much more engaging.

Good scifi/horror read

Not as good as the first, narrator or storyline. This one is a little more predictable in places and a little more out there. Narrator isn't as bad as people say, however Ron Perlman did a fantastic job on the first book.

If You Loved The First, You'll Love the Second

Don't let the absence of Ron Perlman as narrator keep you from listening to The Fall! There are a lot of reviews that talk about wanting Ron Perlman back, and although I love consistency as much as the next person, Daniel Oreskes is NOT disappointing. The story is still captivating, the narration and production is still top quality, and if you loved the first one you will love the second! Basically I have nothing bad to say about this audiobook and can say with no doubt I will listen to it over and over.

for adults only...part 2

The Strain- part 2, good classic vampires, no bland Edward, no insipid Bella, no silly Sookies.

little slower than the 1st but worth it

This took much more effort to listen through, but I'm glad I did and I'll be buying the 3rd as well. I do wish they'd kept Ron Pearlman on as the narrator, he did a wonderful job in the first book and this narrator is good, too,but not as good.
