From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.
But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.
Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.
And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.
He's seen Steelheart bleed.
And he wants revenge.

Even though I've followed Brandon's writing career, we attend many of the same writing functions, I haven't read any of his books. However, after listening to the first five chapters of Steelheart, I was so impressed with the characters and the plot that I ran out and bought the book.
I just achieved App Scholar!! 1000 hours in 1 yr 7 mo and 10 days!!! I never thought I would make it this far!! Thanks Audible
You will know if the book is for you or not!! Me I loved it!! Thanks Audible
It helped me decide to not purchase the book at this time.
I'm dissappointed that Sanderson starts other lengthy series before finishing the ones he's already working on. Whatever happened to "The Way of Kings"??
never seen it in print
steelheart. cuz he is so badass
when steelheart is looking at his own blood on his hand in shock.
cant wait to listen to this story
I have a real crazy in love relationship with books!!!
I cannot say I LOVED anything about this book but I did enjoy listening to it. I think it got off to a bit of a slow start but boy did it jump out there and left me hanging on for more. This was my first time hearing this author and the narrator sounds vaguely familiar. Getting this sample makes me want to read the entire book so I will be placing my order. However, at this moment I am unable to say this was amazing but I think it has potential to be pretty good.
Say something about yourself!
I cannot wait until Sept. 2-whatever. No, seriously. What a ruthless tease you are, Audible. You give me a mere hour and a half of MACLEOD ANDREWS reading SANDERSON and expect me to wait a MONTH?!? are you CRAZY?!? Not cool.
But I will say, oh good gods above, within the first 2 minutes I was hooked. Which considering the source, isn't all that surprising. Although, I will admit that some of B. Sands other books might take a bit longer to suck you in (10-20 minutes, max. and its only because they're just so mind blowingly awesome that you're having to pick pieces of your mind off the floor) so a 2 minute hook, line and sinker makes me feel all warm and glowey inside.
Needless to say, this is going to be awesome. I'm so happy that Macleod is narrating (yeah, we're on a first name basis, don't be jealz.) I fell in love with him through Sandman Slim and can't wait to hear him bring these characters to life.
Now if only we could convince Audible to 'accidently' release the full version early.... hmm.
I read/listen purely for enjoyment and any reviews are based on that. Mostly fantasy, mystery, suspense.
Sanderson is fairly new to my library as ive read everything he has put out (except the wheel of time) in the past 8 months and have loved every one of them. That being said, ill probably buy this novel off that strength alone even though the begining has left me unsure. I'm thinking the reason we dont see authors doing this preview of the beginning thing is just that, it just the beginnning, and without the rest immediately following i could see people losing interest. If Mistborn had been released in this fashion im not sure i ever would have fell in love with Sanderson to begin with. Having purchased Mistborn, I finished it, and it became one of my favorite series of all time. I'm hoping that like so many books out there Steelheart turns into a great story and by the end leaves me feeling satisfied and ready for more.
Was excited by the lengthy free preview and wanted it to be more. It did not hold my interest and deleted it after 45 minutes. Kid' s POV, monsters, reason to hate them, blah, blah, blah.
