From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.
But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.
Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.
And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.
He's seen Steelheart bleed.
And he wants revenge.

Considering this is just a book preview, I cant really fault the book all together. But as it stands, I get the feeling I'm listening to a cross between the BBC TV show Misfits (without the comedy mind you) and the X-Men Age of Apocalypse spawned X-Terminated. Not saying that is a bad thing, but in the realm of originality, its lacking.
I will have to reserve judgement until I can listen to the offering in its entirety.
Long haul commuter. Audiobooks keep me from causing serious physical harm to my fellow commuters. Bless you, Audible!
This is an excellent concept, well written with engaging characters. I look forward to the full release.
I listened to the prologue and 5-chapter sampler and now I'm ready for the full book. I will definitely be downloading this one when it comes out. Fascinating storyline and premise, with an enticing look at this new world.
If there's a plus side to listening to this then at least I didn't lose a credit in the end. Twenty minutes into it and I'm shaking my head as to why Sanderson wrote the first book in the Stormlight series OVER 3 YEARS AGO and then starts something else. If Steelheart would've sounded more original and less tweenish I may have given the full book a chance but c'mon this is pretty disappointing.
If you want to read a much better series with a similar spin on the magical powers then go with the Grimnoir Chronicles by Larry Correia.
I would have been perfectly happy waiting for the official release. But I also didn't have the willpower to not listen to this. Now I have to wait a few weeks for the actual release. Not cool!
So far, I've enjoyed Sanderson's 3rd YA series thoroughly. The description sounded cliche, but after this sample it is most definitely a unique take on the super-hero genre. I'd prefer to be reading a different, not yet published, Sanderson book, but this will have to do for now.
Graphic. Well-executed. Mysterious.
X-Men comic books and graphic novels
Death Point's entrance and rampage
It was shocking..but I want more
I can't wait for the book launch.
No, I would not recommend this book. Brandon Sanderson should concentrate on his other series. This is too farfetched and starts out like of one of Larry Correla's books although Larry does a much better job.
No ending, sample only.
Good performance by Macleod Andrews.
Not purchase the whole book.
Another great story by Brandon Sanderson. It's humourous, adventurous and thoroughly captivating. I can't believe I have to wait a few more weeks for the rest of the story. Get ready to be entertained!
Myst/thrillers and ✨fun fantasies✨are my favorites but always open for a good story.
Brandon Sanderson is a favorite on Audible, but I had a hard time getting into the story, not sure if it was the narrator or just the story. I liked the prolog a lot, it just seemed to go down hill from there.
I don't usually read science fiction. I was very intrigued by the first chapters. Can't wait for the rest of the book
