A bit slow but good

The wheel of time is daunting to get into. For me reading a book feels like it takes forever, while others can zip through them.

The wheel of time is a bit slow and a daunting 12+ book series.Depending on how the second one reads Its hard to say if this was worth it or not.

it's an ok story, with a great act

eye of the world is not a great book, its settle the foundation for a great great series, but in yourself is just a ok story with a lot of troops and a problem of ryrhm. The performance on the audio version is marvelous, they conveyed so much personality sole in the voice of the characters that listening it is a new experience, a better experience !

Great book, great narrators

One of my favorites series, read by gifted narrators. Good, distinctive character voices, clear annunciation, and solid comfortable pace.

My First Robert Jordan Experience, but not my last

Any additional comments?

I don't write reviews on every book although I read many reviews before I choose. Hmm, guess I should write more? However, after reading Brandon Sanderson's "The Way Of Kings" and finding I'll have to wait ?? For Book 2, I stumbled on to Wheel of Time series. Having only finished Book 1 I'm not as impressed with it as WoK, but it's only one out of 12, 13+/- so I'll reserve judgement. The reviews tell me it's worth it though so I've already bought Book 2 in the series.

The world Jordan builds is much like most in the sci-fi fantasy genre no big surprise, but his characters are coming from a different POV, IMHO. Having listened to an interview with him at the end of Book 1, I now understand that. It's refreshing to find a 'Hero' who really only wants to be back home with his father tending their sheep. If I had to face some of the trials he and his friends faced I'd be packing now to find a lonely country lane myself!

I've only recently started reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy. I'm more of a Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Adam Johnson fan and so many others in the Horror/sci-fi genre, Elizabeth Peters, Preston & Child, Ken Follett, Martin Cruz Smith to name only a few in the Fiction Genre. Only a smattering of authors and books in my vast Audible library from Great Courses to Classics, History, Science/Medicine......But, I read George R. R. Martins Game of Thrones and got hooked. So far, so good! I'm not sorry about any of them I've spent a credit on.I believe that the Wheel series is going to be a good ride down Fantasy Lane but I'm worried about saddle sores by Book 5/6 maybe. Don't know yet.

This first book seems to be laying the foundation for future books (at least I hope so), so wasn't knee deep in substance. If Jordan can deliver the goods since the main characters have now been solidly introduced then it will be a fascinating ride....if he can't lets just say I'll be eagerly awaiting Sanderson's Book 2 WoK, ha, who am I kidding, I'm already waiting with baited breath for it regardless of intermissions! Still uncertain rather I should have picked Mistborn series before this one but I'll get to it eventually and won't have to wait for the dang sequel(s)! Still Jordan is a great interlude and who knows I might be pleasantly surprised and hunger after every book in the series as much as I am for Sanderson's . Have nothing to lose since Sanderson is having to "unfortunately" write the last(?) in the Wheel series since the untimely death (aren't they all?), of Jordan.

Long and short of it.....if you like this genre I think you'll be glad you got this one. In fact my wife who normally IS NOT a Fantasy/myth fan type, loved the book and can't wait to start listening to Book 2. Go figure...

If you like game of thrones

I really enjoyed game of thrones. I was looking for another book of a similar style. This one hits the mark for me. I really enjoyed how eastern and western philosophy's were integrated into the story. At times this book can be a bit confusing and can feel like there is huge back story but once you wade through the first few chapters I the narrative comes together. I expect I will read the whole series.
