Entertaining and a bit confusing

I really enjoy the characters and look forward to follow the story further. I'm quite confused, but I assume that everything will fold out as I dive deeper into the story. I read most of the book physically, and ended it with this audiobook.

A great long hike through fantasy

I liked the world building and character development, little bit of intrigue and a hero comes into his own kinda coming of age. But it felt like.. I feel like maybe the payoff will be in later books? Granted it might be better to read this one, I felt like my comprehension in listening was 50/50.

The narrative takes you on a journey through time, seamlessly blending various human beliefs and myths into a gripping tale of adventure and destiny. The storytelling is immersive, and I found myself looking forward to each new chapter. The characters are well-developed, making the stakes feel real and engaging. If you enjoy a well-told, intricate fantasy, this book is definitely worth your time.

Hooked!

Awesome! One of the best series of books i've read/listened to and i've read quite a lot of fantasy & scifi. It is a must read for anyone even mildly interested in fantasy adventure.

Pleasssse...don't listen to the abridged volumes you will regret it. Also please request to audible that they get the rest of the series in Unabridged versions. I'm on my second reading and it's as good as the first.

The series has a strong following for a reason!

Any additional comments?

Can't wait to read the whole series! Excellent read - no graphic violence, no gore, no rape, no sex, etc... Refreshing.

Great Book, Great Intro

This book starts out really slow, and for the first 5 chapters or so you almost want to give up and not keep going. I heard from my best friend that this series of books was the best he ever read, so I plugged along. The end of this book makes the slow start worth it, and once you get into the series (books 2 and on) you realize why it needed a slow start just to explain everything you need to know. Personally, I have read all of the books in the series almost twice, this would be my second time listening to the audio books as well. I give the series itself 5 stars, but this book only gets 4 becuase of the slow start where at times it is quite boring. All in all it is a great book, and a great intro to the wheel of time series. Even though there is a prequal (New Spring) I would recommend reading this book first. This book provides a great "jumping off" point into the Wheel of Time world that Jordan so brilliantly created.

i LOVE the narrators

this is what lord of the rings could have been. i personally didn't like LOTR (though i adore the movies).

the only problem with the narration for me is that the two narrators seem to have never gotten together to decide how to pronounce some of the proper nouns. they even change their own minds from book to book. a bit humorous to me actually. but you have to listen to the whole saga to hear the 20 odd discrepencies. apart from that i find their pacing to be very good. i have no trouble telling one character from another, and i'm tone deaf! and hearing the spin the two different narrators give to a particular character really helps to show how robert jordan understood people so well, and was able to put that into the story to make it feel so real.

this book is the begining of a huge saga. this particular book's only drawback is that the author had to take some editing decisions to make the book stand on it's own since the publishers didn't know if it would sell. book two also has some of these imperfections. but by book three, the saga had legs and the author was able to set his own pace and the story really began to shine. i suggest you listen to the prequil, "a new spring" to really get ahandle on what's coming, and get a feel for the world robert jordan created.

to put it metaphorically, this saga is like a locomotive... a bit ungamely as it gets rolling. but once it's up to speed it's elegant, majestic, and unforgetable. the books are long, but like a train ride, once your out of the city and rolling through the countryside, you realize you never want the journy to end!

excellent!!

I am so glad I got this book. It was so full of fun and adventure. I almost stopped listening for the first few chapters it was so boring but I held out and was so happy I did. This was one of the top 10 of all the books I've bought in the 3yrs I've been a member.

Absolutely the best modern fantasy series.

This will be the fifth or sixth time I have read these books. I am starting over from chapter one so I can be prepped and ready for the release of final book at the end of the year. The story is deep and rich and the performance is done very well indeed. The two narrators are right up there with the late Frank Muller. I will say this to anyone considering this series, you may have to be a little patient. The story is so tied to so many lives past and present that you really don't start to understand the complexity until book 3 or 4. I don't say this to detour but to let you know that you will go back, as I did, and start again at least once. The fact that the story's ability to foreshadow things that will happen books later is a great credit to the author's ability to spin a great tale.
Also for the those concerned about the passing of the author Robert Jordan, no worries that last book was nearly completed before his passing and is being worked on by a fan and fellow writer. This writer was hand selected by Jordan's editor and wife Harriet to complete the final book.

This series is a must read!
