Excellent book if you like fantasy this is the start of a very interesting series

I started listening to this book because of Brandon Sanderson. I have listen to a couple of his Siri is in really liked the way he wrote. I saw his mist Born series and wanted to start at, but after reading some reviews I realized that series actually started from this series by Robert Jordan. Apparently Mr. Jordan wrote many books in the series and then passed away before he was able to finish it. Brandon Sanderson took up the series and finished it for him.

So my expectations of this book were medium high but not spectacular as I have come to think of Brandon Sanderson as the King of all fantasy writing. I am happy to say I was not disappointed in this book and in fact find Mr. Jordans style extremely well written and interesting. Keep foreshadows well the characters are well developed, to the point that it’s a little slow in the beginning but with a series of books this large and this in depth there must be some slow character building in the beginning. I like his use of similar religions and myths that intertwined themselves in the book. It allows you to tie real world myths and religions into the book and I think that brings you closer to the characters.

Overall a very good first series book I look forward to the second and third and fourth… on into Brandon Sanderson‘s series.

The performance was outstanding mostly done by the mail reader with some very small parts by the female reader. It was very well acted expressions in the voice and intonations was excellent I thoroughly enjoyed his interpretation of the book.

Try if even slightly interested

Just started listening to the series. I read the first two books and left off. it's a wonder how I missed so much now that I listen to the books. I love how the narrator changes based on gender.

I highly recommend dipping into the series if you like fantasy with much stronger female leads than is usual.

Why two narrators?

Narrators should have read together - male & female respectively, instead of reading chapters seperately.

A lot of fun!

I've been listening to this while I work on my sewing and patternmaking homework, and it's /wonderful./ I tend to hate audiobooks, frankly, because I come from a background in literary analysis and generally want to annotate everything. I also space out a lot and tend to miss a lot of what's happening when listening to an audiobook.

This book is excellent, however, for a couple of reasons. One, it's not ~fancy schmancy literature~ so I don't feel the need to annotate every page. Two, it follows the general trend of high fantasy literature in that it has a looooot of description, so if I space out for a second, I can usually figure out what's happening because it's the same thing that was happening five minutes ago. Or I can just hit the "30 seconds back" button.

It's a really great listen if you like high-stakes plots and snarky characters, because that's literally all this book is. I'm about halfway through and in love with everyone. The narrators have really lovely slight voice variations for each character, and are engaging to listen to.

Tl;dr, if you like high fantasy and also space out a lot, this is the audiobook for you!

good potential but not enough originality

he drew too many parallels to tolkeins books but I will be reading the next few books of the series to see where he goes from here since I hear that he gets more original later on. the plot was a bit predictable but the characters seemed well rounded and the narrators did a good job making you feel like you got to know them. over all a good book but not a great one.
