As the world spirals even further down into the abyss of apocalypse, one man struggles to keep those around him safe. Michael stands side by side with his wife, their children, his friends, and the wonder Bulldog, along with the Wal-Mart greeter Tommy, who is infinitely more than he appears. Whether Tommy is leading Mike and his family and friends to salvation or death remains to be seen.

"Mark Tufo is a natural talent. He writes a relentless experience of a story." (John Ramsey Miller, author of The Last Family)
Avid Zombie fan who's starting to listen to more and more Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories. So, my description is apt to change. Dog lover who's known to have cats. LOL C# coder, part-time prepper, B movie fan, AMC watcher, recovering but successful day trader, perpetual student, overjoyed uncle, former adrenaline junkie with a flare for cooking, and lots more. LOL
believe it or not, zombie fallout keeps getting better! i really liked the 1st book, thought the 2nd book was pretty good, but not as good as the 1st book. i think the 3rd book, the end, is the best of the 1st 3. book 3 expands upon what mark tufo was building in the previous 2 books- justin's sickness, eliza's and tommy's backstories, etc... the chase is still fresh! why eliza is after mike talbot is answered. major revelations are finally exposed.
the end begins with the end of eliza's human life. i really like these flashbacks from both eliza's and tomas' lives. it provides insight as to why eliza is so hell-bent on killing everybody.
the story then picks up a little before the ending of book 2. we see mike, bt, and jen battling the zombie hoard through the eyes of those who escaped. the desperation of seeing your loved ones surrounded by flesh eating zombies, the guilt of letting them sacrifice themselves so you can escape, and the hope the sound a 50 caliber machine gun going off can provide.
another plus is learning what happened to brandon after he left ny himself.
after being saved by a small convoy of soldiers, the survivors are brought back to camp custer and what ensues is worthy of the camp's name. if you don't know what i mean, then you are either dense or uneducated! hey...that's me channeling mike talbot. but really if you don't know who custer was, google it.
even though it may seem impossible and improbable, things actually get worse for mike talbot. the same cast of characters are there, and that's good! i will point out that justin plays a bigger role in this book than the previous. i like how tufo has used justin's infection as a plot point, and it's done really well in this book. i really love the banter b/ween mike and bt.
mark tufo does an excellent job describing the power of a zombie hoard and the fear it produces. i cite the hoard squishing its way through mike's 2nd story bedroom wall in book 1 and the miles of marching zombies in book 2. i thought i had seen it all from tufo, but in book 3, the end, tufo again out does himself with the swarming hoard.
man, if you think zombies are bad, some "normal" humans can just be sicker. humans can do the most vile things when they have power over another. history proves it and mark tufo has given us a few good snapshots of human cruelty. the first one was in book 1 with mike's insane zombie rapist neighbor. in this book, an old enemy appears just as enthusiastic, and new enemies push the scale even further into depravity.
mike puts it best, "man was a plague upon itself. i have firsthand experience that wwar brings out the worst in the two opposing sides. even that can't hold a candle to what happens to the human mentality of the victor over the conquered. it is something about having absolute power over another being that drives men to incomprehensible acts of cruelty."
i'm a dog lover, but i hate english bulldogs. they're slow and slovenly, but i think i love henry after this book. believe it or not, there are some touching moments in this book, and one revolves around mike and a boy named porkchop. i kid you not!
if you liked the first 2 books, then you probably aren't even reading this review. lol i'm a fan of the zombie fallout series and will probably pick up the next book in the series w/o reading any reviews.

Just as the title of this review says... this series just keeps getting more interesting. I find myself enjoying every minute of these titles. You would think that as these series of titles continues they would get more monotonous or boring in some way, but the absolute opposite is happening. There is so much imagination and thought that has gone into these books I am looking forward to each and every single one.
On to the actual story though, the Talbots can't seem to catch a break. They keep going from dilemma to dilemma with only a minor reprieve in between. They all handle it in different ways clearly, the one our focus being on throughout the book. We see some amount of tragedy in this book as with the last books but in a post apocalyptic world ruled by Zombies and a queen Vampire with a serious superiority complex named Eliza bad stuff are bound to happen... As with the previous books, this ends with a cliff hanger, this one though makes you want to rush out and get the 4th book.
There is nothing I can say more about the narration that I haven't said before. I was impressed, I am impressed and I believe I will continue to be impressed.
Yes, I'd recommend this book to a zombie nut.
BT is the best buddy a guy can have. He always has Mike's back, provides comic relief, and a hard dose of common sense when the situation calls for it.
Voices, definitely the voices! At first I was turned off by what I thought was a Family Guy dad voice and almost didn't buy the series, but then I read the reviews. I bought the first book, then the next, and am now waiting for ZFO6. Mr. Runnette plays a huge part in my loyalty. I can't imagine any other reader doing this series justice. Sean Runnette is versatile with voices, every character is distinct and ideally portrayed. Mr. Runnette has exquisite timing for comedy. He delivers the right emotional inflection that makes the series memorable.
Mark Tufo has so many "wow" descriptions that I am stunned. It's hard to pick one moment. Terror, humor and good description makes every part of the book work for me.
You got a solid team here. Tufo + Runnette = success.
The Talbot Family continues against all odds and it's full-on war. There's a sinister and unrelenting cruelty that follows this family, as if surviving in a post-apocalyptic zombie driven world were not enough. Mark Tufo retains all the key elements of this nuclear middle-class family on the run with some vital tag-along's armed to the teeth who comprise this inner-circle of survivors. Mike Talbot is holding on as our reluctant wise-cracking hero, the sometimes amazing, sometimes flawed father and ex-Marie war veteran and the chances of living is probably zero. The death, the gore, the guns and absolute horror of it all is turned up all the way. The listener does not get a break because this ride is far from over. The best we can hope for in this saga is brief moments of rest before the shooting starts, the zombies advance and escape is impossible. Sean Runnette continues in a excellent performance and delivers Mike Talbot's humor in the most extreme of circumstances. Were it not for this performance, the books may not have held up through the intensity of three volumes. Be warned: The title is "The End" but it's not by a long-shot. If you like the traditional zombie genre, this is possibly the "Lord of the Rings" epic version across the vastness of the US landscape. I've read numerous, very good zombie genre series but this one is a cut above the rest.
Just a fun loving family guy! Obviously I am a zombie genre fan as well as post apocolyptic genre.
The End ranks right up near the top. As a series, this has to be one of my top three favorites.
It is a good old fashioned zombie tail with an interesting twist. I love the character interactions. I am completely drawn into this story.
I have only listened to Sean's work on this series. It is spot on as usual. He really has a great ability to bring the story and characters to life for me.
There are several parts that really made me laugh out loud. Remember this line "God has a 50 cal? F***ing fantastic". That one about put me into a ditch as I was driving!
As much as I love to see a good ending to a series, I am glad this one is continuing for a few more books as I am really into it. Get these books!
Just when you think that the story couldn't get more exciting Mr Tufo cranks up the action and the horror! I am loving this series! I love how he has you smiling about one of the main character's wise cracks and in the next minute you can feel his sorrow and anxiety! Do yourself a favor and give this series a try! I don't think you'll be sorry!
The story unfolded nicely at the beginning, however; it kind of hung in there for a while, although new characters came into the book they vanished as fast as they appeared. The end of the book was very disappointing, I kind of "hung" in trying to figure out if I had downloaded the wrong book part. The ending was abrupt and for a "long" moment I was lost, I actually had to Google the title to find out what was happening, that is when I discovered the next book "The End Has Come and Gone".
Overall, the book unfolded nicely, kind of slow at times, the end of the book (part) was unexpected and abrupt.
Surprising, interesting, more!
Mike - the lead character. He's strong, a common Joe, inspirational and puts his family before all else!
This series is my first 5 star review and I've read ALOT of zombie books!
Yes I would listen to this book again. The Talbots continue to flee cross-country to escape their EVIL and SADISTIC assailant; she is what nightmares are made of. We get to know more about Tommy (if any of you have not guessed his role and relationship to the EVIL Liz it is all explained in this book). Alliances are formed between human and zombies as a major battle between good and evil crushes spirits, takes lives, and pushes Mike and his family further into hopelessness and chaos.
The beginning of the battle at the military base was intense!
Spoiler******* Truly a sad moment when Tommy left. I felt for Mike and his loss and felt for Tommy as his reality about his sister became clear.
Yes - b/c it's funny and it's zombies
Yeah but he's oh so annoying - reminds my of Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond
I love Mark Tufos writting, he has to be one of my favourite authors and I love Sean Runette. His voice just makes the stories come alive!!!
"Time after time"
The duo of author and narrator bring together a winning combination !!
Bringing a great package of suspense humour and action!
"Keeps you hooked from start to finish"
It is a great book that keeps wanting more of Mike and his family, from one chapter to the next chapter.
"Great series. This one is a 4/5"
I'm a big fan of this series and it continues to be performed well. This book was a fair amount of filler and background like a book between books. Still enjoyable but felt like the 2 towers in LOtR. You know, if you skipped it the series still made sense.
Worth a credit if you're listening to the series still. I'm ready for number four and have hopes it's all about to kick off.
"these are good books but way too short for the £"
I have bought audio books in the past where 1 book has been as long as all 3 of these books so far. and there are several left yet so it's a very expensive series in all
"Feature length no holds barred!!"
Everyone should have a Mike Talbot in their life, I certainly have, the characters just grow and grow!! Best series of audio books in a long time!!
Fantastic, great humour, amusingly Witty, The characters are funny.
Funny & dark at times. Great story , never a dull moment. Kept me hooked from book one. Well done Mark Tufo 10/10
Michael and BT have a great friendship and banter.
Every chapter, I was hook from the start
Lots of laughing, giggling to myself. Great story
