Very High, dark tower series started me off on Audio books & the late Frank Muller is my favourite narrator.
Roland, tough gunslinger character, very similar to David Gemmells Jerusalem man (aka Jon Shannow). Read superbly by Muller. Even Stephen King said he would listen to Mullers reading to get in the atmosphere to write the next dark tower novel.
I've listened to many of his performances and all are good, but in my opinion this is his best.
I just love the world and characters he has created, so strange & disturbing. Have read and listened to the whole series, and without a doubt prefer listening because Muller takes you right into the world with his powerful performance.
I am a voracious reader both print and audio. The best stories hold you from the opening paragraph and keep you wanting more.
Such a lot is answered in this story and such a lot remains. Who would have thought of psychotic machinery but Stephen King. By far The Dark Tower is his finest epic work and I look forward to reading the next instalment.
Great book, the characters are brilliantly written and act realistically as opposed to a Hollywood hero. I'm hooked.
The only issue is a strange delay on the voice that you can hear in gaps.
This, the third book in the Dark Tower saga, really brings the ka-tet together and sets them on their path. It has some very dark concepts and unpleasant sections both because it deals with negative emotions, war, assault, abandonment etc and also because it shows weaknesses in each of the characters. It ends on a heck of a 'To be Continued' which feels quite frankly cheap, but I'm one of the fortunate ones that had the next book loaded and ready to go !!!
Frank Muller seemed to take perverse pleasure in extending each horrific second and left me breathless. Fabulous, thoughtful narration.
The characters are more 3 dimensional with each becoming more aware of their roll in the quest. This book in the series is a page turner with plots and scenarios evolving and a cliffhanger ending.
"Ok.. Now I love this Narrator"
Well, I reviewed book 2 and was at that point a bit peeved that the Narrator had changed from Book one. I thought it was the narrator I didnt like, but I was wrong - it was infact my pet hate that narrator changed in a book series and nothing else. I find that I now love this narrator and cant imagine the characters having been any other way. A bit of google searching reveals that unfortunately Frank Muller was unable to complete this series after being in an accident and that is the reason for the alternating narrators. Both are excellent, I am sure it will jar again when Frank Muller is no longer reading but I am sure it will become as enjoyable again very shortly afterwards. I am very glad that book one has the "new" narrator as I will have heard his voice already when the change comes again. The Story is utterly superb as is the narration, I had no idea that I was listening to and giving a bad review of a narrator who was considered amongst the best, after many hours listening to this Narrator I can now see why he was chosen to read these books and it is a real shame that he has since passed away and will never complete the set.
"the series gets better and better....."
Midworld reality hits home, glimpses of how Roland's world has moved on! amazing really enjoyed it!
as always. What you come to expect 🐶 🐩 😂 😁 😀 😋 😃 😊
Another stellar performance from the author and narrator. Quickly becoming my favourite book series! Love it!
once again a dark tower volume that I couldn't stop listening too. Can't wait for volume 4
"A great tale well told"
As good as I remember and well narrated a great bathtime listen recommend the whole series without hesitation
"Dark tower enthralling"
This series is the greatest ever and audible allows us to become greatly involved 100% brilliant
Loved it, audible have brought Roland's world to life once again. Stephen King is truly a master story teller and Frank Muller has such a dynamic and complementary reading style that between them they weave a magical spell that enthralls and captivates from beginning to end.
Roland as ever is my favourite character performed by Frank Muller. Towards the very end of the book, one particular part of dialogue from Roland would earn Frank my own personal Oscar, helps that Steven King wrote it obviously!
"Excellent story, excellent narration."
One of the better Dark Tower stories. Frank Muller is excellent as always. Five stars.
