Publisher's summary

Tuck Underbank is a Warrow -- think a hobbit with shoes and "large jewel-like eyes" -- living in the peaceful Boskydells. When an unnaturally cold winter strikes and the evil Modru threatens the world, he and a number of his fellow Thornwalkers go to the High King's aid. But a vast expanse of lightless blizzard called the Dimmendark (sounds bad, doesn't it?) is spreading over the land, and Tuck soon finds that the "dark tide" is going to swamp them all.

Despite the fact that they're tiny and temperamental, the Warrows get included in the military forces. But the High King doesn't have enough warriors to hold off the horde of slobbering monsters who are coming to attack. And the battle goes horribly wrong, separating the friends from one another and possibly dooming them all.

I like this book.

When I seen that Cameron Beierle was the narrator of this book I had to give this book a listen. To those of you who have already read or listen to the Belgarion series which Mr. Beierle narrates, this book may seem a bit weak, thats being kind. But I am comparing Dennis L. McKieman's book to the best epic ever written. David Eddings ten book series is the greatest work of fantasy ever written and Mr. Beierle brought those characters to life. If you have not read the Belgarion and the Mallorean series do so right now. Don't just get it from the library. Buy it and keep it safe. It's on Audible!!! ps. Whose this Tolkien guy? jk

Welcome To Mithgar!

I've only heard 1 hour of this book so far and it is wonderful! I have read all of Dennis McKiernan's books, and they only get better with every new book!

Bring on the rest of the series!

Great Listen, Exceptional Story

McKiernan has been my favorite author since I first read The Iron Tower Trilogy some time in '99. Cameron Beierle does a fantastic job in narration. each character is covered differently and their character seems to be taken into account with the voices he gives them. the story itself is well written. if you enjoy high fantasy in a world that has a feel of originally, The Iron Tower Trilogy is a fantastic pick.

Pacing and Pronunciation

Dennis L McKiernan is one of my top five favorite authors and fortunately so because this narrator has an odd way of pronouncing a lot of words. It's not just the odd nuanced names that DLK gives to the foul folk, it's things like "winding", "draught", "scimitar", and several other words. Added to the disjointed and randomly timed pauses in the middle of sentences would make this audiobook intolerable to listen to if written by a lesser author.

Good book series

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dark Tide to be better than the print version?

Hello, my Name is Danner, Yes my mother named me after the Danner bramblethorn, Thats how i ended up finding this is she told me about where i got my name, then after i finished the first book and got kinda bored, more recently i found audible and said why not, finished the first book the day i got it and im flying though the second right now. I love the series and would recommend it to anyone willing to overlook the numerous similarity's is has to LOTR.

What other book might you compare The Dark Tide to and why?

LOTR

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yeah not to spoil to much but people die, lots of em, and it gets to you, or at least it got to me.

Any additional comments?

Listen to it if you have the money for the books.

LotR with heart

Imagine a Lord of the Rings style world where the characters, all of them, were relatable. This is the world McKiernan presents to the reader and it is a truly amazing experience. If you are looking for high Fantasy done right, check this book out.

This series has been a fan fav for so many years, i have read the books numerous times over the years. Recently I got into audiobooks as my commute to work is a waste of time so now I utilize them with books. Now I listened to this story and still was fully engrossed within.
