One bitter Midwinter's Eve, everything changes when Bridei finds a child on their doorstep - a child abandoned by the Fair Folk.
It is the height of ill fortune to have truck with the Fair Folk, and all in the area counsel the babe's death. But Bridei sees an old and precious magic at work and, heedless of the danger, fights to save the child. Broichan is wary but relents, for Bridei must grow to be his own man and make his own decisions.
As Bridei comes to manhood, he watches the shy girl Tuala blossom into a beautiful woman, and feels things he didn't know were possible.
Broichan sees the same process and feels only danger, for Tuala could be a key part in Bridei's future...or could spell his doom.

I'm just an old goat that like magic, dragons, elves, dwarves, wizards and witches. I read for intertainment and like long fast paced books that have just a few central characters....Loved Iron Druid series and Monster Hunter series. I live on a farm in SC and have given all the birds and animals that hang in my yard names and magical powers, and sometimes it seems like they really do.
I have more than 300 hrs of audio books and I've enjoyed this one as much or more than any so far
Read this in book form before listening on audio book. Audio always puts opinions and life to a book. Gives real feeling of what the author meant by writing this book! The history and mystery of this book are excellent!
Extraordinary writing, get real feeling of character and what is going on! You can picture it in ur head like ur watching it happen!
recommend to anyone young or old, male or female!
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys following the unfolding of a deeper storyline. The story is fully absorbing, but one caveat is that if you prefer a fast-paced book peppered with exciting battles, this one may not be for you.
The complex relationships between the characters is what really shines in this book.
The Dark Mirror contains some of the most memorable characters that I have encountered among the hundreds of audiobooks that I have consumed, and Michael Page gives a flawless performance.
The story is set beautifully! It weaves and winds around each charater until you fall in love with them. I understand the last reviewer, but we all can not have every book that we read unfold they way WE wish. As for my reviewing friend just listen to that last 1/4...... I know why you were upset... because these charaters are so well created and presented! I am sad that my story is over and here searching for the 2nd addition! :)
This book is one of those that just keeps you griped until the end. Very well researched, filled with detail. You can just imagine you are there in the story watching what the character is doing, seeing and feeling.
The Narrator brings a great story to life.
I did not find this book slow. I enjoy books that have good character development. I loved Bridae and Tuala's story and was sad to see this book end. I am hoping that audible will get the other stories in this trilogy soon. I will definitely buy them.
Listening to this story, I realized that most of the time I was "listening to a story" and had not "dived into another world." There is a good foundation here, and a good framework with interesting ideas. But, I kept wondering why I wasn't getting involved in the story.
After a while I decided that it was a lack of of both reminder and sensory descriptions. Reminder descriptions are the ones I find useful in a long book or one with many characters and sensory descriptions are great for enhancing the experience. There were some in this book, but not enough to fine tune the mental imagery.
A really good author that enhances the reader's experience with fantastic sensory descriptions is Larry Correia. Dark Mirror was lackluster at points and I had to sometimes back up the audio once I realized I had been thinking about other things while the book was playing. Since this book took so long to get to any points of intersecting plots, some enhanced sensory descriptions would have been great to help hold interest. The book waited until the last hour to pull together some action and meaning to the plot.
The main characters go through a lot of grief and it would have been nice to have some wit or humor interspersed liberally thoughout the story to give some balance.
I've already bought the second of the series due to a Sale, but hope the second book gets better in order to decide to purchase the third book of the trilogy.
I love Michael Page in other settings, and was thrilled to find him in this. The story, though, was achingly slow. I can't bring myself to finish this as nothing is resolving or progressing at a reasonable pace, and the parts I had hopes for aren't being elaborated or explored in a meaningful manner.
it not that its a bad story, just not a story for me. the narration was good, but the book was so drawn out, I got bored.
I thought his narration was great
I found this book enthralling - the story is fast flowing, the characters believable, I became immersed in the setting. The narrator does a great job, I had no trouble listening to him. My only complaint is that the other books in the series are not available on audible!
drew me in and got me hooked, listened to it twice already
