Michael J. Sullivan garnered critical raves and a massive readership for his Riyria Revelations series. The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

I ran across the Riyria books by chance, and was completely hooked by not only the story and humor, by by the EXCELLENT narration by Tim Reynolds.
The Riyeria books have the same feeling as the Gentlemen Bastard series, without the extra graphic violence. I like them very much.
I really couldn't properly express how much I loved this book, the characters, the overall story. If you haven't been introduced to Riyria, start here. If you read the Revelations and want more, read this.
A bit more slow moving than the Riyria Revelations but is still a good listen with the same lovable characters and engaging story.
A great story; well told and exciting. Wonderful all the way through. No dead, dull, or confusing spots. The narrator has wonderful voices for the various characters and sticks to them. You really get a sense of the personalities and characterizations of the players and an understanding of the culture of the time. I purchased the first book and loved it. I came back yesterday for the 2nd book and it is equally good because the first book just wasn't enough. Great series.
The quality is similar to the Wheel of Time for the story without the padding.
Tim Reynolds is one of the best narrators ever in my book.
Absolutely. BUT I also want to savor it and make it last.
Thank you Michael Sullivan! Could we have more, please?
You know what is special about Michael Sullivan's writing? He writes characters and dialogue extremely well. Think Quenton Tarantino or Martin Scorsese. I love their movies for the fast paced witty sarcastic banter between characters. Sullivan knows how to do this and does it well. Most fantasy writers fail miserably at this (ie Patrick Rothfuss, whom everyone seems to love, which for the life of me I can't understand). I digress.
This books tells the origin of the partnership of Hadrian and Royce, the Butch and Sundance of the fantasy world. If you have read the others you will not be disappointed. If you have not I suggest you do. Start with the original Ryria Revelation trilogy and them come back to this one.
Keep them coming Mr. Sullivan. Bravo.
The stories are never long enough I just enjoy listening to them. After I finish The Rose, i will re-listen to the "first" three books,
Thank your wife for me, for persuading you to continue!!!!:)
And hast off to Tim on the narration
I love the entire story, the sense of adventure, the characters, the setting ... it was a constant roller coaster, but was well thought out and did a good job of paying attention to the details. This is a 3 book series, and I loved them all. And I liked how the last book ended ... it pulled things together in a way that was satisfying and rewarding.
I don't review too many audio books. I stumbled across Theft of Swords about a year ago. I listened to the trilogy of books and when they were over, I found myself missing them. So I loaded the first book up on my iPod and started again. Four times through the series, I found that The Crown Tower was available.
The writing and narration are terrific. I hope that Mr. Sullivan will keep the series going. You have a lifelong fan.
Thank you very much.
The series is brilliant in every way. Great characters. Funny, exciting and well just very well written. Narration is wonderful.
Royce and Hadrian are fantastic. The perfect opposites that make a great team.
Smooth with perfect pitch to fit the story.
Yes and I didn't want it end.
Just spend that credit...you won't be disappointed!
very enjoyable prequel to a great series! i hope we get all 12 or so years worth of stories that may be coming!!
i am very happy they got Tim Reynolds back for these books, he really gives both of the main characters the voice and presence i get from reading the books.
