Publisher's summary

A staggering defeat on the border of Adro and Kez leaves Tamas and his powder mages in grave danger and cut off from all aid. Meanwhile, deadly political games threaten his allies at home.

When invasion looms...

Tamas's invasion of Kez ends in disaster when a Kez counter-offensive leaves him cut off behind enemy lines with only a fraction of his army, no supplies, and no hope of reinforcements. Drastically outnumbered and pursued by the enemy's best, he must lead his men on a reckless march through northern Kez to safety, and back over the mountains so that he can defend his country from an angry god, Kresimir.

But the threats are closer to home...

In Adro, Inspector Adamat wants only to rescue his wife. To do so he must track down and confront the evil Lord Vetas. He has questions for Vetas concerning his enigmatic master, but the answers will lead Adamat on a darker journey.Who will lead the charge?

Tamas's generals bicker among themselves, the brigades lose ground every day beneath the Kez onslaught, and Kresimir wants the head of the man who shot him in the eye. With Tamas and his powder cabal presumed dead, Taniel Two-shot finds himself as the last line of defense against Kresimir's advancing army.

The Crimson Campaign continues the most acclaimed and action-packed new epic fantasy series in years, following on from Promise of Blood - an adrenaline-fuelled debut of flintlock mages, civil war, and cold-blooded murder in a world where gods walk the Earth.

So well thought out!

Fantastic story! Lots of action, intrigue, and character development. The way the chapters pace is a little different than I'm used to, but it wasn't clunky. I'm starting the third book now!

Great story, hard to put down.

This series has been a fun one for sure. Great characters, interesting magic system, and very good action and pace.

Sublime escalation

Rare is the sequel that properly and smoothly improves upon it's predecessor. Having just come off another low fantasy series (Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne) I was wary of the sophmore nose dive fantasy trilogies often take and rarely recover from. I am pleased to say The Crimson Campaign is a riveting, fast paced continuation of the Powder Mage trilogy.

If you enjoyed the first, you're gonna like this one even more.

Even better than the first!

All the great elements of Promise of Blood, but the storyline kept me listening even more! Can't wait to continue and finish the third book!

no muddled middle book in this series

I almost always hate listening to the 2nd book in a series, but this book was better then the first . I can not wait to hear the last story in the trilogy. Story picks up with the end of book one and never slows down. the author shares more character insight in this novel, yet the way he changes from character to character in the mist of action seems to slow the book down somewhat. that is my only complaint with this story. this is a must listen, you won't be sorry for buying this book. the narrator did another stellar job with this one. there are many different characters in the story and when he switches from one to another during conversation it's spot on every time.

Good, but Bo's voice jars: 20 y.o. Churchill!

A solid series, nothing fancy, but well written and consistently engaging. Weird voice for Bo!
