Publisher's summary

Seth is a young man torn by fear and indecision. His life no longer in his hands, he fears an uncertain future where the only certainty is a life of servitude to the kingdom. Fortunately for Seth, he is not alone. His brother, Garret, too attends the choosing ceremony where their fates will be decided. Together, the twins make their way to the castle city of Valdadore for the choosing ceremony, but along the way, Seth notices a strange new trend in his life.

Time after time, strange circumstances befall him in what others might call a coincidence, but Seth knows something else is amiss and begins mentally cataloging each new and strange event. Learning his past is all a lie, Seth begins to fear more for his future as a dark goddess vies for his service to her cause. Seth's loyalties and responsibilities begin to stack up as he makes friends and allies and even falls in love, but with the choosing ceremony growing ever nearer, will he be forced to flee the kingdom into a life of exile, or choose to serve the goddess who swears that only through her will he find peace?

DON'T LISTEN TO THE END

Any additional comments?

the book is a decent one, the story is good if not a bit slow and the narrator is decent. I suggest however if you listen to this audio book, don't listen to the end it has a synopsis for the second book in the series which is basically just a spoiler and removes most of the anticipation for the second.

liked the story, not the narration.

I already read the book before I picked up the audible version; I love the series but i believe the narration was somewhat lacking; the narration wasn't terrible, it simply wasn't as good as I hoped it would be compared to a number of other schools I have listened to; I admit that this is likely contributed to partly by my having read the other books in the series so I have already
associated a voice with the characters, though I believe that the narration was for the most part quite emotionless and I disliked the default voice of the narrator, it didn't sit well with me, the slightly gravely tone offset me. Overall as I said the narration wasn't bad, it was clear and without noticeable error however I didn't like the tone of it.
Great story but would rather read it than listen to it.

Enjoyed this Story

I normally do not listen/read books labeled as "1" unless I see the remaining books in the series are available. I have no patience and waiting for the others to come out is a huge annoyance. The synopsis here was intriguing enough to get me to listen. I am glad that I took the chance. If you are into sword and fantasy this is a book for you. There are 4 other books in this series. I hope they are available on Audible soon.
