Publisher's summary

For millennia, the planet Harmony has been protected by the Oversoul, an artificial intelligence programmed to prevent thoughts of war and conquest from threatening the fragile remnant of Earth's peoples. But as the Oversoul's systems have begun to fail, a great warrior has arisen to challenge its bans. Using forbidden technology, the ambitious and ruthless General Moozh has won control of an army and is aiming it at the city of Basilica.

Basilica remains in turmoil. Wetchik and his sons are not strong enough to stop an army. As Lady Rasa, through whom the Oversoul speaks, attempts to defeat Moozh through intrigue, Nafai and his family prepare to voyage to the stars in search of the planet called Earth.

Love this series!

Where does The Call of Earth rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Maybe a small step below Ender's Game, Human Trilogy, etc... but love it much more than I thought I would, based on others' reviews. As far as the religious overtones that some people seem to dislike - why is this a problem? PLEASE. Actually, I found them quite thought provoking and a cause for many ongoing debates/ contemplations inside my head as I listened! Lol...using those religious references/ parallels as a negative aspect of the book is ludicrous! If you state something to that effect, please explain exactly WHY that is a negative??? I just don't get it. References to alien life, paranormal, etc...people are ok with but make religious comparisons and OMG! (I'm really not over-the-top about this...just curious.) ANYHOO... This is a great read and I'm on to the next one!

Love the narrator, love the story.

Can’t go wrong with Card but I’m new to Audible and can’t take some of the narrators here. Stefan Rudnicki is an awesome narrator.
Love his voice all the way to work and all the way back.

The recording issues must have been fixed

Card delivers again. I felt so thoroughly warned by the other reviewers who mentioned that the recording was terrible and apparently unedited, that I almost didn't order the book. I heard none of the coughing, errors, repetitions or personal comments that any of the other reviewers mentioned. Perhaps Audible has since edited this work. On to the book. I think what I like most about Card's work is what he teaches me about human nature, my own nature. I always walk away feeling a little better capable of understanding myself and others through his contemplative observations of his characters. Well done. Please keep them coming.

Warning: Storyline eventually turns gay.

What disappointed you about The Call of Earth?

I did enjoy this book but the story line turns gay in book 3. If you are someone that does not want to hear gay subject matter, you may not want to invest any further in this series.

What about Stefan Rudnicki’s performance did you like?

I listened to this book in the car and Rudnicki's voice is clear and without large volume swings as I have experienced with other audio books.

Lees review

Orson Scott Card is a master Sci FI author but
Call to Earth falls short of Enders game and the continuing books but is a fun read *Lee

Interesting and Engaging

The world Card weaves is a believable one, with strong character development and he captures brilliantly the intricacies of the human mind, psychology, emotions, and motivations. This makes for fascinating drama and he wields his skill very well to weave a great tale. It is certainly stimulating and drives the reader inexorably to read the next episode of this grand journey. A worthy read.

This is book 3 of Homecoming Series

I like this book, which I read in May of '23, and might read the series again. That said, one of the reviewers said the series Isa loose fictionalizing of the book of Morman, and that gave the book a creepy slant. I asked ChatGPT and got a dandy brief compare-and-contrast, and it seemed pretty different, so I'm not worried that it's turn me all LDS. Enjoy!

Meh

Meh. Everyones excuse for acting shitty seems to be "because they were shitty". Then everyone's response to people acting shitty is welp they are shitty.
