Publisher's summary

The number one New York Times best-selling series finale and sequel to A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night.

Look for the hit TV series A Discovery of Witches, streaming on AMC Plus, Sundance Now, and Shudder.

Bringing the magic and suspense of the All Souls Trilogy to a deeply satisfying conclusion, this highly anticipated finale went straight to number one on the New York Times best seller list. In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home, Sept-Tours, they reunite with the beloved cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency.

Music over the voice?

Music was over the narration in the beginning and at the end. Other than that annoyance it was great. Sometimes a little too detailed in the surroundings

Terrific Tale

Best trilogy I’ve read in decades. This book alone is fascinating, captivating, well written, well researched, imaginative, disturbing, and delightful. I loved it.

So close to 5 stars

I really want to give this story 5 stars. It definitely kept my attention and was entertaining. I’m a huge Outlander fan, and this book follows several of the same overall themes which I enjoyed. Strong female protagonist, unfailing love story and devotion, science and history, loyalty of friends and family, and many others. (I honestly wonder if Harkness is an Outlander fan too...) The only issue I have with the book (again, I truly enjoyed it regardless) is that it seemed as if the story kept building but never came to a climax until the end of the third book. And even then, all action scenes and conflict were short lived and too easy. The narrator was excellent and easy to listen too. I just wanted more conflict and action. Good series, worth the listen!

Another masterfully written tale!

The author's gift for crafting a story is matched by the sublime narration. I could read these tales again and again. Phenomenal!

Trilogy

I loved this trilogy! Jennifer Ikeda did a PHENOMENAL job with the performance of narrations. Although I pretty much couldn’t stand most of the second book, it really created a great base for the third and I am not disappointed in the trilogy. Very fun read!

Satisfactory ending, although...

I so enjoyed the first two books so much, that I didn't want the series to end. Therefore, it took me a while to resignedly begin the 3rd and final installment. In the meantime, I made the mistake of watching the series on STARZ. (I knew there wouldn't be spoilers as it didn't encompass the final book.) Still, a big mistake. The actors just didn't match my vision for the characters that Deborah Harkness created, and that Jennifer Ikeda so flawlessly brought to life. To me, the TV series just cheapened the whole trilogy for me. It just wasn't grand enough.

I only mention, because The Book of Life was my least favorite of the trilogy. However, I'm not sure if it's the book itself, or if the TV series just kind of ruined it for me.

The narration, however, was still top notch. I can't imagine anyone but Jennifer Ikeda voicing these characters. These books and Jennifer are a match made in heaven. I understand the narrator has changed for Times Convert. It's for this reason, that I'm not sure I'll pick up the latest book. Disappointing, as I wouldn't mind furthering the story.

Third time

I’ve listened to this for the third time (at least) and love it just as much, if not even more. The narrator does an amazing job!
