Publisher's Summary

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Blood of Olympus - the fifth book in the best-selling Heroes of Olympus series, set in the high-octane world of Percy Jackson. Though the Greek and Roman crew members of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen - all of them - and they're stronger than ever. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

What did you like most about The Blood of Olympus?

okay I'm not the traditional audience for Rick Riordan's books, I'm an adult who just happens to read a lot, and has a soft spot for fantasy and mythology.

The Percy Jackson series got me hooked, and this series has continued to keep me interested enough to pre-order book five. I'm saying nothing about the story itself because I don't like spoilers, but from the previous four books you just know it's gonna be good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

too many to choose from, Riordan writes some really good characters.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

don't make a film of any more Rick Riordan books, the disaster that was lightning thief was enough to put me off watching any more!!

    Any additional comments?

The mythologies are accurate, for kids who don't know their greek and roman mythology (and egyptian with the kane chronicles), these are a fun introduction to them.

Would you listen to The Blood of Olympus again? Why?

I re-read books I love over and over again and this makes the cut. It's a rare book that can educate and entertain you at the same time and Rick Riordan's imagination is just a pleasure to listen to.

What other book might you compare The Blood of Olympus to, and why?

I hate comparing books as every Author deserves recognition in their own right. So I'll compare this to Rick Riordan's other books and say that it more than measures up. It's not anyone who can write a long series and produce books that are of the same standard throughout. The only other two Authors that spring to mind are JK Rowling and Michael Buckley.

What about Nick Chamian’s performance did you like?

He's not the best reader, particularly when compared with Joshua Swanson who read the earlier books in this series, but I find the voices he does amusing. It says a lot for this book that it carry's itself no matter who reads it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I almost managed it. If I hadn't had to stop for small necessities like eating and sleeping I would have.

    Any additional comments?

I'm assuming anyone picking up this book is already familiar with the world of Greek Gods and their half-blood offspring that Rick Riordan portrays so brilliantly. I've always loved Greek Mythology which was what initially drew me to his books. I fell in love with the Percy Jackson series for their humour and vivid descriptions, and this was increased ten fold in the Heros of Olympus series. The characters are just so life-like and colourful that you'll never forget them. As with all Rick Riordan's books, I was gripped throughout, and I only hope he isn't done with either this world or these characters.

What made the experience of listening to The Blood of Olympus the most enjoyable?

It interweaves two different stories into one which made it intriguing.

What other book might you compare The Blood of Olympus to, and why?

I would compare this book to Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian because it has the same structure.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Multiple storylines within one great tale.

    Any additional comments?

This review is from my 11 year old son who listened to the complete story 5 times before anyone else got a chance to listen to it - so it must be good!

OR IS IT!? The end, not a great book, because that is undeniable- the characters each fall into place in their role to finally thwart Gaia! However, as hinted at during the book, Rick Riordan has confirmed that his next book, The Trials of Apollo: The Lost Oracle (if I'm remembering that correctly) will revisit all the heroes from Heroes of Olympus that you know and love!

    "Thoroughly Enjoyable"

I really enjoyed these books, I love Greek mythology and the way Rick Riordan brought them to live was thoroughly amazing. As an older listener I did struggle at times with the child like way the Gods reacted to things, but as this was written for a younger audience I felt I would make it more accessible to them and didn't detract from my overall enjoyment.

As to this book particularly I felt that it summed up the series and finished off each hero's story well.

"Loved the story - not a fan of the narrator"

As usual the story kept me hooked from start to finish. The narrator though seemed to read every sentence as if they were independent of each other, pausing after every full-stop so that the story didn't flow. He spoke so slowly I had to make the speed faster on the app.
