Rising from her humble beginnings as a lost orphan, Lia is summoned to be Muirwood Abbey’s protector and special guardian for Ellowyn Demont, the lost heir of the fallen kingdom of Pry-Ree. After the death of the ruthless king at the battle of Winterrowd, the great Aldermaston and Abbey leader calls on Lia to use her mystical talents to save Muirwood from two new threats - a vengeful queen accusing the Abbey of her husband’s death and a deadly plague threatening to destroy the land.
Amidst the turmoil, a battle ensues, and soon Lia learns the world’s magic has begun to falter. As a blanket of dread envelops the Abbey, hopes are tested, and Lia will be forced to come to terms with a secret that will change her life forever.

Narration is very well performed, with great voice variation between players. Keeps a good story moving with excitement that is not over played.
First, I've listened to all three books in the trilogy, so this review covers all of them.
When I first read the summary for the first book I wondered why I had gotten it, but luckily it was a pleasant surprise. I'm usually not too fond of coming of age stories but this one was pretty good. The characters developments grow through the story. Even minor characters have depth to them. There's magic and action. I read some reviewers who said there was a lot of preaching and religious aspects but I didn't find it overwhelming or even really thought of this as a religious book, unlike some I've accidentally listened to. After all, the main character was raised in an Abby and the storyline is centered around them.
Lia starts out as a wretched (what we would call an orphan) in an Abby. We get to go along with her on her adventures as she discovers who she really is.
The narrator did an excellent job and added a lot to the story.
Ask yourself what makes a perfect sequel and this is it. The story is expanded, the world is expanded. New threats dwarf old ones. New and complex characters are revealed. Secrets are revealed. Answers to questions you've had, or didn't even know you had, are answered. You learn more and get involved more. This story, as in all great fiction, is rooted in reality and human emotions. It is well written and Kate Rudd does a very distinctive, outstanding job with a variety of both male and female voices. This book (the whole series) is a steal for the price. Highly recommended!
Yes without a doubt.
Our main character starts to actual show shes more than just 2
Great as always.
Better than first, still would put it with young adult books.
