Publisher's summary

With people fleeing the valley in droves and Estes no longer the safe haven it had once been, Neil Martin must make some hard choices. His group has dwindled to 70 homeless refugees who have very little left to survive on. They desperately need to find a place to call home before their many enemies realize how defenseless they truly are.

Instead of risking everything on a blind thrust across the Rockies to the Pacific, Neil sends out three picked teams to not only find a safe passage through the mountains but to also find a community that will take them in. Captain Grey is the obvious choice to lead one team, but is Sadie really the person to take charge of another?

She is a capable leader, a survivor, and a veteran of dozens of battles, but can she control the schizophrenic eight-year-old who won't leave her side even when the blood starts to run and the voices scream in her head?

And what happens when their mission is balanced on the knife's edge with disaster on either side and Jillybean a second from going nuclear. Will Sadie be able to make the hardest of sacrifices for the sake of her family? Or will she let love get in the way?

Good Finale...Slightly Exhausting

I listened to the last 2 books back to back....so maybe that's the reason I almost couldn't stand the last adventure back to Bainbridge. Maybe I was worn out or craved some friggin' closure. But, overall, good arc over 10 books.......pretty much everyone dies as usual in zombieland.......good writing.....good narration. I prefer to set the audio on 1.2x to speed up the delivery a bit and keep me glued to the audio.

Overall, all zombie stories are ridiculous and I like how the author eventually moved away from the zombie threat and allowed the characters to deal with the other characters, not always the zombies. I think that natural fatigue of impending doom is realistic....at some point the characters just quit trying.........

Glad to have read the series.........didn't really teach me anything......but I was entertained for a 100 hours.....Thanks.

Awesome awesome

emotional, gripping, and awesome. The title says it all...sacrifice. starts out like the plot to the other books, but quickly turns into a ride of a mental and emotional rollercoaster.

I don't want it to end.

I absolutely loved this series. I am so bummed that it's done I wish there was more I cannot get enough of Jillybean the whole thing. I want to see where it goes now that they've made it someplace better is it going to last. It doesn't seem like it's over, is it? What next? it's like everyone was a part of my life for so long now I'm not sure what I'm going to do I absolutely loved loved loved this series and I want more

this was a great story and a great series

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a zombie story I loved every book in the series although if this is the last I felt a little cheated at the end but overall was still great there could be another but with the ending of this book there truly is no need

If you’ve listened to the entire series...

I have been a big fan of this series. Of course it has its far fetched and craziness, but that is part of its charm. What I didn’t care much for in this book in particular, is the narrator changing the way everyone sounds. So if listening from book 1 to book 10, its very different. To me, it is like changing the characters completely. But also the narrator slips up several times using the wrong voice for the wrong person. I’ve caught slips in the previous books, but never as bad as in this particular book. Maybe I’m just being picky, but I think things like that should be caught prior to being released.

What a great ending to a great series!

Just beautiful writing amidst death and gore. The ending was the best I've read in a long time. Thank you, Peter for the gift of this series. There are a lot of us who are grateful to have had the chance to follow Jillybean through the apocolypse.

EPIC TO THE LAST WORD!!

Since the first word of page 1 book 1 you are captivated and drawn into this apocalyptic landscapes in all it's cracked and dismal glory; lovingly brought into a rich family of misfits who love and protect each other with the grace, unwavering love and fierce brutality that any mother gives for her children. The girl that is Jillybean becomes any child left alone, scared and courageous in the undiscriminating world of depravity, hate, fear and destruction that is the Apocalypse. Captain Gray Sir, Mr. Neil , Sadie, Deanna, Emily and even Ipes just to name a few become a loved part of your family as you move through their rollercoaster journey. Each win, close call, daring escape, brilliant explosions, and painful loss is felt as if it was your own; so when they finally find their tattered happy ending you can't help but feel in your heart and through your tears as they cascade down your cheeks.

Sad to see this series go

After 10 books, this series and the characters have become part of my everyday life. Assuming based on the ending that this is the last book in the series, I'm already missing them. While trying not to spoil anything, I will say just this, some deaths are harder and sadder to take than others, and that's the only reason I didn't give this one a full five stars. Basil Sands does another masterful job of narration, and Meredith weaves another action packed, intelligent, funny, and sorrowful tale for Neil and group. Unfortunately, this tale is much more heart-wrenching than I normally like, but probably what you'd expect in a real life apocalyptic world. I highly recommend the series, but be prepared if you prefer happy endings, you might find this one not as much to your liking.
