Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical martial-arts action.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds. Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history - or religion.

Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice. One such is Waxillium Ladrian, a rare Twinborn, who can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will.

After 20 years in the Roughs, Wax has been forced by family tragedy to return to the metropolis of Elendel. Now he must reluctantly put away his guns and assume the duties and dignity incumbent upon the head of a noble house. Or so he thinks, until he learns the hard way that the mansions and elegant tree-lined streets of the city can be even more dangerous than the dusty plains of the Roughs.

Deeper than I was expecting

I totally didn't expect the plot to be as deep. I felt comfortable listening with the intention that this would be a surface level read/listen. Towards the end there was a great dive into something deeper and more profound towards the characters development! I loved it! I was super surprised and pleased with the way Brandon has pulled me in! I love the Characters Wax and Wayne- they are whitty and full of color! Great book! Excited for the next in the series.

Scratched the itch

I do not regret spending a credit for this book.

Surprisingly not stale for a "trilogy follow up".

Fun characters and a well done dumbing down of the alamancy system.

Good holdover while we wait for Sanderson, Rothfuss, Abercrombie and that fat guy with "writers block" to add to our favorite series.

Excellent

Sometimes spin off books lack the nuances that made me enjoy the original series. It pleases me to say that this is not the case here. This new direction for the Mistborn is going to be great. The new characters are all quite meaty and the pace satisfied my need for movement without cost to clarity. Brandon Sanderson and Michael Kramer are a match made in heaven.

Alimancy in the Old West

The second trilogy of this Mistborn series is a completely different feel, although it uses the same alimancy and world as the first Mistborn books, just 300 years in the future. It is set in a time similar to our old west with trains, guns, and lots of new technology. Alimancy adds an interesting twist. This book was much shorter than any of the three books of the first trilogy. I enjoyed it, but wanted more. There was plenty of gunplay and killing. It's pretty amazing that Wax can avoid bullets so often. A few deeper themes, but not as many as the first Mistborn trilogy. Overall it's a pretty straightforward plot with a pretty straightforward resolution. I do want to read the next book.

Bought this book... Then put it on hold

As much as I liked the Mist Born series (spoiler alert!!) I hated how Sanderson just blithely killed off all the main characters in the end.

So I was hesitant to invest my time, thoughts and feelings into new characters that I suspected he would just 'massacre' in the end.

I started listening to this book awhile back then stopped. The Mist Born series was still too fresh in my mind.

So I waited....

It was worth the time lapse and wait.

I really enjoyed this book and its characters. The dry humor was awesome and Michael Kramer is simply the best!

Sanderson is a great writer but sometimes you have to give him a break, then read another of his books to remember and enjoy what a great writer he is.

Another winner in the Mistborn world

In this series, the Renascence world of the Mistborn has been updated to Victorian steam-punk. Mr. Sanderson does an excellent job of blending magic and the Industrial Age. Mr. Kramer is versatile in his vocal characterization of the story, and provides an immersive experience of the book. This is a distinct advantage of Audiobooks over print.

Best Mistborn Book so Far

What do you get when you combine The Adventures of Brisco Count Junior with Sanderson's excellent Mistborn series? You get a Wild West fantasy with action, adventure, suspense, humor,in many wonderful characters. What I hope we all get is a continuation of The series in the form of several new books. You do not need to have read the other books in the series to understand and enjoy hugely this wild adventure.
