Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical martial-arts action.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds. Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history - or religion.

Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice. One such is Waxillium Ladrian, a rare Twinborn, who can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will.

After 20 years in the Roughs, Wax has been forced by family tragedy to return to the metropolis of Elendel. Now he must reluctantly put away his guns and assume the duties and dignity incumbent upon the head of a noble house. Or so he thinks, until he learns the hard way that the mansions and elegant tree-lined streets of the city can be even more dangerous than the dusty plains of the Roughs.

as fine a writer as any I've ever read

and i always have a book going somewhere - since i could read. this whole mistborn series is just flat-out-better-than-good. the magic - so well done. the dialog - funny, touching, substantial, meaningful. the plots, the themes, the peoples, the angst - I've run out of superlatives (they wouldn't be good enough anyway) - just read it. p.s. - I love a great book I wouldn't mind recommending to my mother :o)

Surprisingly fun

Narration was fantastic as always, particularly in bringing to life the characters and their personalities.

Story was also pretty fun and interesting, albeit the ending was perhaps a bit underwhelming from what it was built up for... but I understand the reasoning if this was later decided to be meant as a trilogy. More of a fun book than a serious plot/mind bender, but I'm perfectly fine with that and I enjoyed it. Great character development and I look forward to the sequels!

Good story, great reading

His feminine voices took me a minute to get used to, but all the other voices and accents were great. Great story as well

He did it again

It's hard to start a new story when the last one had the world almost ending but being saved in the end. Where do you go from there? Sanders did it again. This story was interesting and very fun. Great start to a new story.

once again. another thrilling story!

there's nothing Sanderson could write that bad. And the first continuation of the Mistborn world definitely continues the wonderful world and expand my knowledge new ways.

New setting, same great Mistborn!

If you could sum up The Alloy of Law in three words, what would they be?

Wild West Allomancy

Who was your favorite character and why?

Waxilium. He's quite capable and clever, and it was fun hearing his story.

Which character – as performed by Michael Kramer – was your favorite?

That might be Miles. He just sounded dangerous - really well done!

Any additional comments?

This new world brings a lot to the table. If you enjoyed the first Mistborn series, I think this is a great way to satisfy the craving for more. Allomancy and Feruchemy work surprisingly well and the new stuff became fascinating.

Sanderson impress again

For all those of you that have read Sanderson before (if not, this isn't the first Mistborn novel), this novel will be yet another treat from him. The story is as well thought through as always, once again driven by a cast of well written and three-dimensional characters. If anything has changed since the first Mistborn novels, he has improved as author when it comes to writing well paced action sequences. I highly recommend this book for anyone who's enjoyed Sanderson's books before. If you haven't, I'd try the original Mistborn series if you want a full trilogy, or the short story "The Emperor's soul" if you don't want to commit (yet).
