Publisher's summary

“There is nobody who does [military SF] better than Marko Kloos. His Frontlines series is a worthy successor to such classics as Starship Troopers, The Forever War, and We All Died at Breakaway Station.” - George R. R. Martin

The year is 2108, and the North American Commonwealth is bursting at the seams. For welfare rats like Andrew Grayson, there are only two ways out of the crime-ridden and filthy welfare tenements: You can hope to win the lottery and draw a ticket on a colony ship settling off-world...or you can join the service.

With the colony lottery a pipe dream, Andrew chooses to enlist in the armed forces for a shot at real food, a retirement bonus, and maybe a ticket off Earth. But as he starts a career of supposed privilege, he soon learns that the good food and decent health care come at a steep price...and that the settled galaxy holds far greater dangers than military bureaucrats or the gangs that rule the slums.

The debut novel from Marko Kloos, Terms of Enlistment is an addition to the great military sci-fi tradition of Robert Heinlein, Joe Haldeman, and John Scalzi.

Revised edition: This edition of Terms of Enlistment includes editorial revisions.

Welcome to Lots of Hours of Great Listening

If you're a fan of Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" this is a book and series you will love. Actually, if you love Military SF, well, you get the idea...This book is well written and wonderfully narrated. Oh, I could go on but if I do I'll end up giving you specifics but no spoilers here. Buy the book, put on your headphones or Bluetooth your player to external speakers; then kick back and enjoy.

Took a couple of hours to get into this book

I did not like there narrator just didn’t do it for me. However I love the story space Marines, Navy & Army. Love the future wars with Russia and China. The great part is that it’s all believable. Action, battles and future weapons make this a great book. But the book is. To short for a credit. Book 1 f 2 should be One book and 3 & 4 should be the second book. Audible is really starting to take advantage of it’s customers. Sadly I still get the elite series but not next time!

Good, but...

It was good, but was similar to other books I have read on the genre. I am not sure I will continue at this point.

Good start to series

I really enjoyed the story. The description of basic training had me doing flashbacks to my own time in the military. Ah those drill instructors.

Slow start but worth it

Although it feels slow in the beginning while they set up the backstory it’s worth the wait and the information provided is necessary for your understanding of the character. Once we get through basic training the story moves quickly and hops from one event to the next.

Riveting

Luke Daniels is an incredible narrator. Listened to it in 1 day. Even stayed up late to finish.

Best military service depiction ever!

This series contains the most realistic depiction of day to day military life I have ever read - from garrison to deployment.

The mind numbing boredom of the average grunt is flawlessly shared by Mr. Kloos - in a way that’s somehow riveting.

The story is your standard “evil alien invasion” fare and after reading or listening to several hundred of those? This story feels like my comfortable well worn and decrepit A2 flight jacket. It’s exactly what you expect but MUCH more believable if you’re prior service like me.

Luke Daniels is utterly superb.

Sit back, tighten up your 5 point restraints and enjoy the ride.

One of my favorite series

Frontlines is one of my favorite series. I’ve listened to book one at least four times. Whenever I need a break, I enjoy a re-listen.

Great read

In a world of cliche cookie cutter content this was a refreshingly well written and well concieved read. The voice talent was excellent. I highly reccomend!

Good book, basic sci-fi, but good.

This book is an easy listen, great price, the ideas aren't ground breaking but the characters are engaging. Good performance.p
