Publisher's summary

Recovering witch Garnet Lacey owns Wisconsin's premier occult bookstore. And a fringe benefit of the job is getting customers like Sebastian Von Traum - piercing brown eyes, a sexy accent, and a killer body. The only thing missing is an aura. Which means he's dead. And that means trouble - something Garnet's a sucker for....

Funny and enjoyable light listen

What did you love best about Tall, Dark, and Dead?

Good story. Enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the humor. It's not a laugh out loud humor, but a more subtle makes you smile. I enjoy the way the author adds levity to various situations in the story.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love Amanda Ronconi's narrations. She is great at distinguishing the characters voices and good with accents. That's very important to me. If the narration is bad, then I sometimes have to stop listening to the book. NEVER the situation with an Amanda Ronconi narration. She always does an excellent job!

Any additional comments?

If you like light, paranormal romances, you'll enjoy this book.

Paranormal Chick Lit

Would you listen to Tall, Dark, and Dead again? Why?

I would definitely continue the series. I liked the characters and I LOVE Amanda Ronconi's narration.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It felt a little rushed, but since this wasn't a real thriller, it was okay.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

She sounds like she would be one of my good friends. The right amount of sarcasm and seriousness. She's amazing.

No moral compass

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I was expecting a humorous PNR similar to Molly Harper. Instead of charming and funny, this story has an underlying meanness due to a lack of moral compass. I'm ok with sex and magic, but when I see references to "goddess of light" I also expect to see "an it harm none." This protagonist doesn't much care about harm or the consequences of her actions, as well as being TSTL. The combination is not entertaining. The 2 male leads are supposed to be charming, but one comes off as a sociopath and the other has a will of limp spaghetti and no compassion. There are no characters I feel any respect or liking for.

The narration was good. There were about 3 spots of very bad technical quality right after the beginning of the second half.

Would you ever listen to anything by Tate Hallaway again?

No.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

Nice job. Good characterization, attractive accents.

What character would you cut from Tall, Dark, and Dead?

Did not like any of them. They have no heart.

I loved this book

I wasn't sure this book wouldn't be cheesy and overdone with Middle School appeal (witch clichés, vampire romance, and dumb magic spells to fix any situation). Hence I bought the book when it was on sale, and nearly forgot about it. Nearly 10 months passed before I decided to give it a try! What can I say? Now I'm hooked. It wasn't cliché or middle school at all, I found it delightful, intriguing, and entertaining. I would recommend this to anyone who likes adult friendly supernatural stories, especially those who like to read books in a series! Anyway, I can't want to start book 2 in this series!

Fun series

Good writing. Excellent narration. There are a few audio editing errors, as stated, but they are very brief and limited in location. They don't interfere with the story or leave gaps.

I will read the rest of the series.

Good

Along the lines of Molly Harpers books, not quite as humorous but still entertaining. It delves more deeply into pagan beliefs and magic. and less on the vampire side. the give and take between the two main characters is interesting, and the protagonist is definitely one you just want to end up dead, she does a good job of making him annoying.

Amanda Ronconi, as always delivers a flawless performance and keeps you engaged and brings the characters to life.

There are some sound flaws in the editing but not bad enough to avoid the book.

Witches, vampires and Vaticans oh my.

I bought this book because it was on sales for a very cheap price. I am so glad i did. I loved this book and will continue the series. The characters are very likable and the story kept my interest. I love paranormal romance, cozy mysteries, urban fantasy, fantasy alien romance and some regular mysteries. Not sure how to classify this story. I am going to call it a cozy, urban fantasy. It reminds me of Molly Harper;s half moon hollow books, Kristen painters Nocturne Falls books. I can't to get the next one to see what happens with Garnet, Sebastian and the rest of her friends. Another thing that made this a great book was Amanda Ronconi.. I have loved her from listening to Molly Harper's books.

A little to dark for my taste

I really like light hearted paranormal romance. I love anything Molly Harper. This is super dark not funny at all just dark. Not for me at all. Amanda ronconi is amazing as ever.

I'm struggling to finish this book.

I love Amanda Rinconi performance but this book is like polishing a turd. The main character (I forgot her name and I'm currently hearing this story) is very annoying. The story line is weak. I should've listened to the other reviews on here.
